Whether you've read this series in print or not this is an excellent series! I've read all the books and I still love to listen on Audio. This series is one of my favorites.
I loved this book and can’t wait for the next in the series to come out. I love Jeaniene Frost’s writing and haven’t read (or listened) to a book I didn’t like. However, I can see why many people (even her diehard fans) were turned off by this particular one. There isn’t much “steam” to this one and it’s relatively PG compared to her other books. It’s definitely more of a YA listen than an adult PNR book. However, I do love YA and by its own merits this was a great story. I am hopeful this series will “mature” along with the main character, Ivy. Overall I would recommend this one if you like Ms. Frost's books and try not to compare it to Cat and Bones.
I honestly don’t understand all the bad reviews for this book. The 5th Wave was an amazing listen but this was just as good if not better. There was plenty of action and I felt the story advanced in a way that was completely and totally unexpected. I loved the multiple POVs and getting inside Ringer’s head. It was worth every chapter not spent on Cassie or Ben. The wait for book three is going to kill me….
Overall I did find this to be an enjoyable listen but not the greatest of stories. The performance by Jill Redfield bumped the rating up from 2 to 3 stars for me. In my opinion too much of the plot was stolen from Sons of Anarchy but not in a good way. I didn’t care for the “hero” Diego– he yelled too much and came off as a real jerk (not sexy). I did like Raine the sassy heroine so that made me stick to the entire listen.
After reading the YA series Lux, I had no idea the author was writing a more adult spin-off book set in the same timeline/world as Lux. I never cared for the Arum in that series but I did enjoy Hunter. And Holy Alien Hotness Ms. Armentrout gave him his own book. He was so cocky, ruthless and deadly but he had a soft side and it was smoking hot.
If you liked the Lux series, chances are you will like this one too. However, it’s a stand alone listen so you don’t have to read the Lux books to understand Obsession. My only complaint was with the narration, it should have been read by a male for the dual POV. I had a hard time distinguishing who was speaking at times (the narrator did a poor job with it). Otherwise, the story and writing were outstanding!
Admittedly I loved Kiernan from the first book, Timebound, so I was very excited to get his point of view. I loved getting inside his head and understanding how he fit into Kate’s timeline(s). Because this is time travel it can become confusing at times, but the author does a good job of explaining it along the way. Although this novella did not advance the story that began in the first book, it was a great companion piece for fans of Kiernan. I would have given this 5 stars but the narration was not the best. Otherwise, I enjoyed the listen.
I'm embarrassed to write this review because it means I actually purchased this book. The whole thing was utter nonsense and the author/narrator was annoying at best. You are better off getting daily affirmations from Stuart Smalley. Save your money on this one.
I really enjoyed this book way more than I was expecting. I like romance, dystopian YA, zombies and sci-fi but something about the description just didn’t appeal to me. After reading some of the reviews I decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did. The author did a good job of finding the right balance between world building and actually telling a story. Sometimes writers get caught up in the build-up and a plot becomes boring or stale. She blended the right amount of action, romance and back story. She also threw in enough mystery to make me want to go back for more (there are at least 4 books on Audible). I liked the narrator as well but it took a while to get accustomed to his style of delivery. Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes a mix of sci-fi and romance.
Wow! This was a great start to a wonderful new YA dystopian series. Although the story may not be entirely original, the writing was superb. It's another alien invasion plot but this time they do not come in peace. From the start I was immediately sucked into the story and could not get enough. Even though I don't care for the typical trilogy set up, I am happy this series will continue for at least 2 more books.
Narration was great as well.
Like all the other books in this series this was funny, sweet and sexy. I love revisiting characters from previous books and getting a glimpse into how their lives are progressing.
As always the narration was excellent too.
I don't typically enjoy time travel stories as the plot can sometimes get too convoluted. I must admit some of this book made my head spin for that very reason but overall I really did enjoy this book. I was so wrapped up in the story that it became easier for me to suspend my disabelief. This added to the overall enjoyment of the book. The writing is good and the characters are likeable. The narration by Kate Rudd is excellent as well. I can't wait to listen to the next few books in this series.
