"I can't believe I liked it"
Much like the first book in this series I thought the narration was a little too boring. (no real differences with male/female voices) Despite my lack of interest in the narrator I really did enjoy this book. It's a decent romance and I really have no complaints about the overall story. If you liked the first book or enjoy historical romance then you will enjoy this one too. Overall it was worth a credit, but I'm glad I got it on sale instead.
"Perfection"
If you enjoyed book 1 & 2 then hold on to your seats and be prepared to be blown away by book 3. This one is told in both Brynne and Ethan's POV and it was simply amazing! This is how you write a good trilogy, with the possibility of making it a series. Questions get answered, loose ends get tied up and the main couple get their HEA. If the series ended now I would be completely satisfied. Of course if it continues I will be more than happy since I am so in love with Ethan. Wow! Raine Miller has cooked up one heck of a man.
Overall this was my favorite book of the Blackstone Affair. Absolute perfection.
"I don't get it"
I love vampire books but this one just lacked a certain "bite" of a typical vampire romance novel. There were too many characters and too much information given in such a short amount of time. I felt a little dizzy and confused in the beginning. Perhaps I would have enjoyed this one more if I read the Big Bad Wolf series first. The story switched back and forth between characters too much for my taste. Some of the side stories weren't even relevant to the main story. All the more reason I think I should have read the BBW series first.
Overall it wasn't a terrible book but it wasn't great either. I also didn't care for the narration but that's just a personal preference.
"Steamy hot and oh so good"
I had high expectations for this book after the huge cliffhanger in book one. This absolutely delivered and dare I say it was better then the first. This is not a "filler" book just to stretch the story out (like so many others out there). This story actually gives us answers and creates new and exciting questions. I can't wait for book 3. This was a breathtaking, sexy and emotional journey. And did I mention it was oh so hot and steamy too!
"My favorite book in 2013"
I’m not someone who would really know a well written book if it bit me on the ear, but what I can tell you is that this one touched me to my very soul. This story broke me apart in so many pieces and then very carefully and slowly put me back together again. It is so beautifully written that it hurts. Yes, this is a book in the YA genre but it is so much more than the typical teen drama/romance novel. It is deep, it is raw and it will stick with you long after the story has ended. This is not a happy or sad story, but one of hope, healing and second chances.
I’m giving this one 10 stars for the brilliant narration and for the complex beauty of this well-written gem of a book.
"Looooved it!"
I was a little hesitant to get this book because I didn’t really care for Johanna’s character from “On Dublin Street”. I must admit the author did a fantastic job of making her a real and sympathetic character.
I fell in love with Johanna and really cared about her. Cam’s character bothered me a little though. I thought he was kind of a jerk at times but despite all the drama I enjoyed their romance.
This is a really good book with great narration. If you enjoyed the first book then you will definitely enjoy this one too!
Definitely a credit worthy listen!
4 Stars!
"Steamy Conclusion to a Popular Trilogy??? what?"
This is such a hard review for me to write. I was so excited to read the “Steamy Conclusion to a Popular Trilogy” as described by Audible. Imagine my surprise to learn that this trilogy is NOT in fact a trilogy and this is NOT in fact the conclusion. Oh it’s steamy, but there is no real ending. Turns out there are in fact 2 more books planned. I must admit I felt cheated. (especially by the author's end comment)
All that aside, this installment was very much like the last one for me. It ran both HOT and COLD. At times the story was really flowing…we were getting answers and some real advancements in the plot. However, most of the time it just felt like so much fluff and filler. I didn’t really care for most of the subplots with the secondary characters either. And as a side note, I really dislike Bret!
I’m giving this one 3 stars for Jill Redfeld’s brilliant narration and for the hot and steamy sections.
"Ewww....just too creepy for me"
I really wish I could give this book more than just 2 stars. I love Maya Banks – she is the queen of Erotica in my opinion. However, I just can’t bring myself to give this book a positive review. Ugh! There was too much “creep factor” in this story for me to just enjoy it. I know, it’s fiction/fantasy and the point is to escape into the story. Somehow I just couldn’t do it.
*Spoilers*
The imbalance of power between Bethany and Jace really didn’t work for me. He is rich, powerful and dominant but she is homeless, starving and doesn’t own a thing (not even a winter coat). I’m ok with him wanting to take care of her, but I just couldn’t get past the thought that she was having sex with him for food. It was just too creepy for me. There has to be some level of equality for the whole dom/sub thing to work. (IMHO)
I didn’t really care for the submissive thing to extend past the bedroom either. Jace wanted to take over her whole life in a matter of a few days. It just screamed “abusive relationship”. The whole thing just made me too uncomfortable. I’m not sure why this particular book didn’t work for me knowing I’ve enjoyed others with very similar themes??
Overall, it wasn’t entirely bad. I did at least finish the book.
Sorry Maya fans, but I just can't recommend this one.
"*whew* I need to catch my breath..."
I just finished this amazing book and I'm still trying to catch my breath and settle my racing heart! This was a brilliant follow-up to the first book. I absolutely loved that this was all from Ethan's POV and the narrator (Shane East) was very swoon-worthy. He could read the phone book and I would happily listen for hours.
If you're looking for a hot romance with flawed characters, over-protective males and two people just trying to make a go of it, then this series will deliver. Just do yourself a favor and get this book right now. This series is so addictive and I can't get enough of Ethan and Brynne.
*Sigh....I am already agonizing over the wait for book 3.
10 Stars!!!
"So worth it!!! (Thanks audible reviewers)"
WOW! This is why I love audible! I never would have bothered with this book (due to the price and length) but thanks to the reviewers I follow I took a chance! THANK YOU fellow listeners....this one was perfect! And so worth the credit! I loved it so much I already downloaded the 2nd and pre-ordered the 3rd.
"The shallow end of the pool"
This is definitely a summer beach read or a rainy-day listen. It's short, sweet and doesn't tax your brain. It's like being in the shallow end of a pool...enjoyable but with no real depth. Luckily I was in the mood for a light and fluffy romance.
