This was just a delight to listen to. Funny, charming, sly and heart-tugging. I was captivated. Loved the narrator, too.
Most Vietnam stories are told from the American point of view. This is an epic story from a Vietnamese man.I loved the story and the narrator.
This is one of the most enjoyable audiobooks I have listened to. The story is incredible. I was drawn into the Tudor time period like no other book I've read before. Then to find a thrilling mystery in the middle of such fascinating fiction was incredible. Great book, great narration.
I enjoyed this book and felt that I learned things about the Japanese culture, but it was not as good as Liam Hearn's trilogy.
Although it was read a little slowly, I thought, the wisdow in this book is powerful. I was touched.
I love fiction that takes you into the past, into another place and time, and this did just that. I love that it was not about Catherine the Great herself but someone who was a part of the history. Very interesting.
My husband and I listened to this together (an advantage of audiobooks). We loved the performance and felt drawn into the story, though at the heart of it, I had a hard time imagining that it would be worth it to anyone to give up years of their life to stop something from happening ages ago. Perhaps I'm too young, or perhaps it's just that I already believe the past simply CAN'T be undone, but the premise itself was a little flawed. Still, it was a delight to listen to and gave us lots to discuss.
Great performance. The narrator brought this story to life for me. Loved listening to it.
