Having now listened to all the Cynster novels up until this one, I found this story boring. The beginning and the end were interesting, the rest was very repetitive. 'Marry me, no, marry me, no, marry me, maybe', on and on this story line goes. Could have developed the characters so much more, and thus made the story line more interesting. As another reviewer wrote, I also get tired of the same phrases used over and over in these books, How many times do they 'hmph'? I do love historical romance, and I enjoy most of this author's books. Also enjoy the sex scenes, but those are over done also. So, glad I got this on sale and didn't use a whole credit. Not sure if I want to listen to the next one or not. As usual, the narrator does a fabulous job. He is one of my favorites for this genre.
Another favorite by Nora Roberts. Have to say this plot really captivated me from the beginning. The opening scenes drew me in and I listened to almost the whole book in one day. Fortunately it was a day off and I could do housework! Immediately liked both the lead characters. Who wouldn't like a strong, intelligent male lead who is sensitive, great at rebuilding a mansion, rich, and likes to shop! The whole mystique of the time period in the past, plus the bayou traditions and tales, was a great setting. The only thing I didn't like, and it was minor, was that the end seemed a little abrupt. But that might have been just because I hated to have this book end. Narration was excellent also. Great combination of male/female voices for present/past. Highly recommend this one.
Enjoyed parts of this book, liked the strong heroine and ties to her family. Just felt there was a lot of 'self analysis' on the part of both main characters, which seemed to drag after a while. I also liked Simon. There wasn't a lot of depth to this plot. Glad I got it cheap. And I have no idea where the title, or the picture on the front, came from. Seem to be describing a different book. Not sure if I will continue with this series.
A new favorite for sure, love the dialogue between these two main characters and love the narrator. I have other audio books read by her and she is fabulous. This story is unique among historical romance. Really glad I listened to the other reviewers and bought my first audio book by this author. Will definitely be watching for more.
This is a good romance with an intriguing plot, a little over the top for drama but still enjoyable. I have written by this narrator in my book list 'avoid', because he still makes the main male character sound like something out of a bad vaudeville play. Makes it so hard to like the hero, and I know it's just because of the voice this narrator give him. It's a shame, because he does the other voices fairly well. So I might go back to avoiding this narrator, takes away from the pleasure of the book. Did like the main characters though, as usual I like the stronger women who actually have a brain and use it.
Parts of this book are really, really funny. Overall I enjoyed it. Just know that the descriptions are definitely true, lots and lots of profanity and extremely descriptive language. For me the language took away from the enjoyment, so I won't be listening to the rest of the series. For some people that might enhance the story for you, then I say go for it. This plot doesn't have much to it, the dialogue is a big part of this book.
So I had high expectations for this book, after reading reviews. I agree with some, disagree with others. The narration, it was good except that this reader 'drops off' at the end of words and I couldn't hear them. Drove me crazy, if I had it loud enough to hear the ends, the rest was too loud. Haven't had this problem before. The story, parts of it were very exciting and kept my interest. But toward the end I kept thinking, come on already, this is too drawn out. Maybe it was the narration that added to wanting this to end. I do love a lot of time travel books. My favorite is still 'Knight in Shining Armor'. This one is not at that level. As others have said, Gaston was an arrogant alpha male. However, I think any warrior from the middle ages would be that way, and probably would not have changed into a loving caring man. One reason I would not actually want to go back in that time! This story is a fun concept, not very realistic but then fantasy is more fun. Might listen to another in this series.
There was not much substance to this story. Really like a series harlequin romance. Glad I didn't use a credit on this. The narration was okay on the male voices. But some of the female voices were just awful to listen to. Wouldn't want to listen to this one again.
Kept waiting for something out of the ordinary to happen, and can't say it really ever did. The hero and heroine were likeable enough, there just wasn't much depth to the story. Love scenes were nice! But the only description I keep thinking for this book was 'average'. Could have developed a better story line, could have been more depth in secondary characters. There was a LOT of conversation. Seemed to hear the same conversation several times, first the original, then again as the character had to describe the whole thing to one of their friends. Overall I'm glad I got this on the 3.95 sale, I would not have wanted to spend a credit on this. Not sure I will get any others from this author, might have to listen to the sample first or read reviews carefully.
Have listened to and read several books by this author, and always enjoy them. This was another winner. The story line kept my interest as the plot unfolded. Liked both lead characters early into the book. The female had some backbone, always appreciate that. There were also a few surprises along the way. Narrator was great, accents were believable, performed the different voices well. Overall definitely worth the credit. Will be getting the others in this series.
First the narration was really good, wish this narrator had more books recorded. Enjoyed the story but got frustrated with Margaret, and what she tolerated from her family. I suppose for that time period it would have been difficult to do anything else. Still it was harder for me to like her than Ash. I did get tired of hearing 'Ash, Ash, Ash' over and over again either in her thoughts or in dialog! There were some interesting twists in this. Not a 'deep' book by any means. But that is not what I wanted. I've only listened to one other book by this author, enjoyed that one more. I will look for others by her. This was worth a credit.
