"Carolyn McCormick's voice just doesn't work"
I loved the story, but Carolyn McCormick's voice nearly ruined it for me. When she tried to do a little girl's voice, it sounded cartoonish and it grated my nerves. It was awful. When she tried to make the characters' voices sound surprised, she over played it and startled me each time. It sounds like she should be doing children's books.
If she is the voice for the rest of these books, I'll buy the paperbacks instead.
"Sophomoric attempt at a hit piece"
Jeremy's constant drum beating about ominous political and religious connections to Blackwater and its founder became comical. None of his dire scenarios played out or resulted in anything nefarious. Its clear he wrote this book with the intent of blowing open the huge conspiracy of government, converatives, and the religious right. The problem is he never comes up with any evidence that such a conspiracy existed, or that it had any impact on politics or the wars. I kept thinking "Its the little boy that cried wolf."
None of his evidence was compelling. It really didn't seem to be well written at all. Was he his own editor on this? Was it his first book? Don't waste your money on this one.
