The Carolinas, 1699: The citizens of Fount Royal believe a witch has cursed their town with inexplicable tragedies -- and they demand that beautiful widow Rachel Howarth be tried and executed for witchcraft. Where does Speaks the Nightbird rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is one of my favorites. I also loved Swan Song by the same author, though it was a little harder to get into than Speaks the Nightbird.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Matthew Corbett is a fresh and unique character to join the ranks of other serial detectives. The historical setting also provides a fresh take on the detective story. I also loved Mrs. Nettles, the sturdy and brave housekeeper!

What does Edoardo Ballerini bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voicing of the characters gave the book a feel of theater which my own reading would not.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I couldn't stop myself, and it got in the way of my other obligations!

    Any additional comments?

I can hardly wait to start Queen of Bedlam....
