Spenser earned his degree in the school of hard knocks, so he is ready when a Boston university hires him to recover a rare, stolen manuscript. He is hardly surprised that his only clue is a radical student with four bullets in his chest. The cops are ready to throw the book at the pretty blond coed whose prints are all over the murder weapon but Spenser knows there are no easy answers. He tackles some very heavy homework and knows that if he doesn't finish his assignment soon, he could end up dead.

This is the first in the Spenser series. It is interesting how his character has changed over the years.
I am now starting with this 1st book and will continue on in sequence. I wish I had read this one first instead of skipping around.
Love Spenser Series. Sorry to hear Mr. Parker has passed.

If you think David Dukes was a bad narrator wait until you listen to Daniel Parker.
He is the WORST! I hope he is not a relative to Robert B Parker, if so he needs another profession.
He makes it hard for the reader to enjoy the book and you can't tell what character is which.
If I wasn't such a big Spenser fan I would return this book. In fact I think I will anyway, that is how bad this reader is!!!

Ten years ago, Paul Giacomin's corrupt father and loose mother used the boys as a pawn in their violent race: Only Spenser could call them off and straighten out the misled teen - almost getting killed in the process. Paul is now 24 and reconciled to his mother's wanton ways. But when Patty Giacomin vanishes, Paul begs Spenser to help him rescue her from the clutches of her boyfriend, a shady character he's sure coerced his mother into running.

This is the first book by Parker that made me want to stop listening.
    The narrarator was horrible.
No chapters, phony voices, I thought this book would never end.
I only hope that the next book is better but if Dukes is narrating it will be a total waste of time.

I have never read anything written by Nora Roberts. To be honest, I thought she was a writer of Romance novels and I am not interested.
I was quite surprised by this book. It was pretty good.
It has some mystery to it and had a interesting story line.
I will try another one of her books in the future.

But when the killer leaves his red rose calling card for Spenser's own Susan Silverman, he gets all the attention that Spenser and Hawk can give. Spenser plays against time while he tracks the Red Rose killer from Boston's Combat Zone to the suburbs. His trap is both daring and brave, and gives the story a satisfying climax.

This narrator doesn't do Parker's audiobooks any justice.

A cop with nothing left to lose, Burke Basile is out to get revenge. Corrupt lawyer Pinkie Duvall has cost him his best friend’s life and his job. Kidnapping Pinkie Duvall’s trophy wife seems the perfect way to get even. There’s just one problem. He doesn’t foresee the electric attraction he’ll feel for this lonely, desperate woman from New Orleans. Sandra Brown’s flair for concocting just the right blend of passion and mystery has made her one of America’s most popular writers.

I have not read Sandra Brown's books for awhile and decided to listen to this one because it was on sale. I was not disappointed.
I forgot how interesting she writes.
This audiobook had some twists and turns especially at the end which I enjoyed very much. I did not want to turn my player off, the story was that intriguing.
Will definitely listen to more of her books.
    Good author, good narrator.

As I have started from the beginning on listening to the Spenser series, so far I have found this one to be the most entertaining.
The relationship between Hawk and Spencer is growing and I even laughed out loud at some of their dialogue.
The relationship with Susan is understandable from Spencer's side but I think she is too wishy-washy for my taste.
The only con for this review is that Parker's ending was wrapped up a little to quick IMO.
Can't wait to listen to the next one in the Spencer series.

The narrator is OK but Burt Reynolds and Joe Mantegna are better readers.
Can't wait for the next book in the Spenser series.
