"Stunning work of nonfiction on the cutting edge."
This book will expand your understanding of the universe. Wilcock has blown the lid off a segment of science that we are only beginning to understand. Highly recommended.
"Fantastic! If you didn't love Tina you will now!"
I purchase a lot of comedy titles on Audible... after many years as a member, this one is on the top of the short list. I have listened to it repeatedly, I enjoy it very much. Tina reads her book to you and you get to enjoy her impressions of randoms (Mr.... Mkrrrrshkvgggghrrrshh) that will make you spit your triple shot nonfat vanilla soy latte no foam all over the dashboard of your hybrid subcompact sedan. If you are remotely intelligent, enjoy quirky humor, and touching disclosures of awkwardness... you're alone on a Friday night just like me. Burrr URRRRR... Also, you'll DIG THIS $--T.
In addition to being awesomely funny, touching, and authentic, if you're a writer of any kind, I believe you'll find this work inspiring. After listening to Tina perform her book, many of my friends said "wow, that's just the kind of stuff you write." Tina, are you listening? Get me a book deal, you GermaGreek Hillary apologist!
Buy this. That is all.
"A fitting sequel, and setup for a third!"
I deeply loved Les' first book in this series. It was touching, fascinating, and thrilling all at once. The performance was superb as well. This title is nearly as well constructed, and if it's at all inferior to the first book, it's only because the surprise of the incredibly interesting world The Magicians set-up is already established here and we can't be as thrilled by it. But Grossman creates an alternate world which, while less novel, is doubly more divergent and interesting. It is well crafted, but I found the climax and denouement slightly less satisfying than that of the first book- however, a sequel is clearly planned and it will be the first on my to-download list.
If you liked the first book, you'll like this as well. Think of The Secret History with a little less darkness and a little more magic and exposition. It's intelligent and entertaining, a difficult combination to execute well. Definitely recommended.
"Thrilling, Intelligent Sci-Fi. Must buy."
A supremely well-crafted story which is slow to build but pulls you in quickly. I found the performance to be superb; each character is voiced well and sounds distinct. The story often meanders when you want the pace to be quicker, which is a good sign that you're invested in the title. If you are a fan of Robert Forward or other intelligent sci-fi, this is a must buy. It is a bit abstract and intellectual for a fan of less intricate storytelling, but immensely satisfying and stimulating.
"Nice, if unlikely romance"
Slow to build, as a good love story should be. The story skirts the boundaries of the believable, but that's alright. Who reads romance for realism? It's less focused on physical intimacy than many other audible titles of this genre, and much more focused on the emotional quality of a building love story, which I appreciated. All in all a gentle and articulate romance which is worth the download. Would purchase more titles by this author if they were available, and would reccommend.
"Excellent travel narrative for the outdoor set."
I love travel narratives and am an avid camper/backpacker; this title from Bill Bryson was right up my alley. It is funny at times, poignant at others, always ringing true- buy it. You won't regret it.
"A must for any human being"
Terrific, relevant, fascinating audiobook that is essential for anyone who is... alive, basically. Very incisive studies of human perceptual abilities and shortcomings which will help you understand yourself and others better, and entertaining besides.
"A Major Disappointment from a Serious Chricton Fan"
First things first- ignore reviews that say this book is a platform for Greenpeace and treehuggers. Whoever says that did not read/listen to this book because in fact, it discredits quite a few principles held by environmentalists for decades. Even though I consider myself environmentally aware, that particular aspect of the book was actually interesting and I learned a bit from it. The rest is disappointing. I bought this title to listen to on a roadtrip expecting the same high level of storytelling I've always enjoyed from Michael Crichton, but it was too corny to be enjoyable. It was confusing at first and then a bit weird, with cheesy romantic subplots whose descriptions made me laugh out loud. Try another of his books, you won't be disappointed- but skip this one.
"Look elsewhere..."
... for a good read. This book endorses a political philosophy that has been put forth by some of the most corrupt leaders of our time, for example that the judiciary should be accountable to the legislature. Besides being patently short-sighted and foolish, this idea runs completely counter to the system of checks and balances developed by the founders and integral to the U.S. Constitution. Another idea presented here is the "activist judge" who is apparently any judge who makes decision based on the law rather than the will of an out of control political majority. This is the kind of drivel you will find here. I'd give it a -1 out of 5, but I don't think the rating system goes that far down.
"True Confessions of a Guru Junkie"
BUY THIS TITLE. It rocks, it will so change your life if you let it. I am not a nutty new age weirdo, but I do like getting different perspectives on ways to truth. I have books by Deepak Chopra (good), Wayne Dyer (great), Stuart Wilde (good), and of course Byron Katie (awesome.) The beauty of this book is many fold. First, it is non-religious, non-preachy, no-nonsense, and simple. I find that assimilating information like this is easier with an audiobook than a hardcopy and this is especially true of "Loving What Is" because you actually get to hear Katie doing The Work with people on the program (that's the best part, in my opinion.) I have listened to it over and over and over, and each time I get something different out of it to complete the picture. There are moments you want to just laugh and laugh because you see so much of what is said in your own life and your own beliefs.
This is probably one of the best investments of my life, not to mention my book collection. I highly reccomend it. There are a lot of wackos out there, and some teachers that actually have something but don't know how to communicate it well. Katie has a simple message and she knows how to get it across. Katie is the real thing. I had the privelege of having dinner with her once and she is extremely present, she lives this Work every day and every moment. You will thank yourself for buying this title. I know I do all the time and have encouraged my friends and coworkers to check it out too.
