When a clockwork-powered man of brass is found abandoned in Trafalgar Square, Burton and his assistant, the wayward poet Algernon Swinburne, find themselves on the trail of the stolen Garnier Collection - black diamonds rumored to be fragments of the Lemurian Eye of Naga, a meteorite that fell to Earth in prehistoric times. His investigation leads to involvement with the media sensation of the age: the Tichborne Claimant, a man who insists that he's the long lost heir to the cursed Tichborne estate.

After listening to the first book in this series, I immediately bought the other two available. The characters are fascinating, the alternate history and technology neat. In this world altered by time travel, Sir Richard Francis Burton is an agent of the king, investigating unusual happenings, primarily revolving around why history is so changed. None of the books really stand alone, there are episodic mysteries at the beginning with the rest of the book tying into the overall storyline. This is where they get into some trouble. I know time travel is confusing, but things get a little muddled and messy, overlong as well. That being said,I don't regret listening to these, the narration is excellent and I love the characters. Fans of steam punk and sci-fi should enjoy!

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Loved this book! I've read a lot of horror and fantasy fiction, and you get pretty jaded to genre tropes. This story really knocked my socks off.The boogey men were quite the pair, hilarious and frightening..every character was full and multi dimensional. Joe Hill has his fathers talent, but his own wholly original voice.Get this book!

They were just kids when they stumbled upon the horror of their hometown. Now, as adults, none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them all back to Derry, Maine, to face the nightmare without end, and the evil without a name.
