Leslie Maitland is an award-winning former New York Times investigative reporter whose mother and grandparents fled Germany in 1938 for France, where, as Jews, they spent four years as refugees—the last two under risk of Nazi deportation. In 1942 they made it onto the last boat to escape France before the Germans sealed the harbors. Then, barred from entering the United States, they lived in Cuba for almost two years before immigrating to New York.

Would you try another book from Leslie Maitland and/or Leslie Maitland?

    no

What did you like best about this story?

sorry I couldn't even finish it

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Leslie Maitland?

someone with a little more enthusaism

    Any additional comments?

I have gotten into the second part of three but had to stop. The narration by the author is too weak for my taste.

    Story
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This was a horrible listen, I din't care for the narrator on this story, the story itself was only suitable to someone who is an Orthodox Jew and even cares what goes on with religious people.

Would you ever listen to anything by Faye Kellerman again?

    yes

    Any additional comments?

disappointed after reading and listening to many of Faye Kellerman's offerings.
