Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss, and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them, in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul, they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation.

    David says: "Somber but gripping"
    "A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS"
    Overall

This is a horribly depressing novel without any redeeming social value.

Entertaining reader and subject matter, but little plot. Don't waste your time.

Leona Hewitt, disguised in men's formal evening clothes, has secretly made her way into Lord Delbridge's private museum to recover a relic stolen from her family years ago. But someone else is there in the dimly lit gallery, on the same errand: a tall, black-cloaked man whose very voice is enough to put her in a trance.

Julie says: "Amanda Quick is always worthwhile"
"Poor reader and poor quality sound"
    Overall

The reader of Amanda Quick books is difficult to understand (at any speed or adjustment) and the audio quality is uniformly awful. Who can enjoy a story under those conditions. I am done with trying Amanda Quick.

Scott Wilkinson is a young advertising executive on his way to the top. Christopher Miller is an FBI legend who has been willing to do whatever it takes to see that justice is done. Two weeks before Christmas, Wilkinson goes on a business trip that will forever entangle their two lives. It starts like so many others. Wilkinson calls for a car service to take him to the airport. But the driver drives like a maniac, and Wilkinson feels fortunate to reach the airport alive. Then he makes a big mistake.

LB in Dallas says: "Scary Ride!"
    "Not your genre, Chris."
    Overall

This is a grisly novel with no endearing characters, although the good guy is truly good. Not badly written, but not Chris Grabenstein's genre.

What does Cain, history's greatest villain, have to do with Superman, the world's greatest hero? And what do two murders, committed thousands of years apart, have in common? This is the mystery at the heart of Brad Meltzer's riveting and utterly intriguing new thriller.

    "Just awful"
    Overall

This is a poorly written thin potboiler. It should not have passed the publisher's desk.

  • The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World

"This book is in part a detective story. After 9/11 I knew, if I needed further reinforcement, that we are living in a new world - the world of a global capitalist economy that is vastly more flexible, resilient, open, self-correcting, and fast-changing than it was even a quarter century earlier. It's a world that presents us with enormous new possibilities but also enormous new challenges. The Age of Turbulence is my attempt to understand the nature of this new world." (Alan Greenspan)

Terry says: "Tripled my understanding of our economy"
    "Defines an age"
    Overall

This books is a well written view into the world of the hard-working and privileged life of Alan Greenspan. It provides clear glimpses of political figures through 40 years of American history.
