"It's just so much compost"
I did not like this one. It was very slow and drawn out. You know that a book has lost your interest when you haven’t a clue who the characters are much less care. At the end, the murderer was revealed and I still don’t remember him/her. The reader doses not help the situation. There is no suspense in her voice. She might be good reading a romance novel but is atrocious with a mystery. Who knows, you may like this one. But, as for me, it was just so much compost.
"A great listen!"
This is a top-notch listen. Fast paced and with so many twists and turns your are really at a loss to say, “Who did it.” The good old boy sheriff musters his family to find out the central question. Controlling them and keeping them on the trail is like herding cats…very dynamic cats at that. If you listen, as I do, to books on the way to the office, you will not want to turn your IPod off when you arrive. Yes, it is that good.
"Definately a more perfect book!"
This is definitely a good listen. Fast paced and there are more twists and turns than your best roller coaster. If you want a book to take your mind off that long drive to the office or grandma’s house, this will fill the bill.
"This book will leave you howling for more!"
What a unique twist to an old legend. This is certainly fast paced and action packed. It is just the thing to make that long commute to the office go by in a blink. The only problem is, when you get there, wil not want to go in. You just want to sit there and hear more. Great book! I, like the previous reviewer, would like hear other books by Mr. Driver. If this is his first, he has a bright future ahead of him.
"The best yet!"
This is the best in the series. You see the human side of agent Pendergast. He is not the wall of all knowing steel he has been in previous books. I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I wish Audible had a program where they would alert subscribers of new additions of their favorite authors. Preston and Child would be on the top of my list. Bravo to you both!
"A must listen"
I will never look at an amusement park the same way again. We all know there must be a “behind the curtain” where the magic is made. However, the thought of evils lurking there has never crossed my mind. This book is better than a roller costar. You will love the build to the top, the screaming plunges and the twists and turns are to die for…yes die for.
"I loved it - See what you think."
I listen to books in my car on the way to and from work and on trips. Therefore, audio books must have plenty of action and a good plot to keep my somewhat divided attention. This book has a little action but the plot (mystery) is what gets you. Who in the heck did it and why? And just when you think you know who did it…well that would be telling. This is definitely a book that will keep your interest in the car or at home by the fire. It was a delight for me. See what you think.
"This is one you won't want to put down."
This is the first book by James Rollins I have listened to and I must say it was a delight. A thriller that mixes reality and fantasy is just my cup of tea. Rollins keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know more and then he delivers the twist. Great book!
"Poor beginning - good ending"
I almost turned off my IPod. The first half was far too technical. When you have to define every other word, you bring the rhythm of the plot to a halt. We should have cared about the main character but for the first half I could not see the point. Then came the second half and this is when the author grabbed me. That is when you get the inkling that the crime(s) are the worst imaginable and you get into the who done it mind frame. Suffer the beginning and you might like how it ends.
"A darn good listen!"
This was a very enjoyable listen. Bodies were not popping in and out. Shady characters were not doing their worst. There was just the central mystery, “The Torso in the Town.” The author took this one event and masterfully wove a fantastic mystery with very believable characters that kept me guessing to the end. I usually need lots of action to keep me interested. Not so here. The well crafted mystery was the thing that kept me wanting more. This is the first book by Simon Brett that I have listened to. It will not be my last. Want a good mystery? This will not disappoint.
