"Good tale but Too long!!"
I found this story unsatisfactory in the extreme. Too much was repeated too often and i found the ending did not suit what had been come before. The reader also tended to swallow his words and slur to some degree so it made it harder to listen to. I would not recommend this as easily as I would other audio books.
"Dick Francis at his best"
This is one of Dick Francis' better books and he delivers a good tale every time he gives us a new book. I found the action and story to be fast paced and well narrated. The plot revolves around an accountant in the racing world trying to determine why he was kidnapped. This not one of those tales that you can work out who the villain is until almost the end. It also has a suprising conclusion which does not detract from the tale. The reader does well to pass along the suspense and emotion without being over the top. I have listened to this a few times already and enjoyed it every time. I have also read and loved the book. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a light, but satisfying, whodunnit.
"Well read but not a good tale"
When I purchased this I had forgotten that I had not enjoyed the tale. At that stage Sidney Sheldon had last his touch and the story was too superficial and flimsy. I found that the reader did a good job with a mediocre tale at best so for that reason alone I have given it 3 stars. the tale itself deserves only 1 star.
"Good tale but Too much extraneous information!!"
I have always said that I would always only get unabridged versions of books, but when it came to this one I regretted it as Charles Dickens, in this tale, uses extremely flowery language and goes into raptures of descriptions that seem to have absolutely nothing to do with the tale. If I hadn't already had an idea of the story and knew it was good, I would not have persevered as the reader makes heavy weather of all the verbiage and consequently makes it hard to listen to. For all that I gave it 3 stars as the tale itself is good and merits a listen to. I would, however, recommend an abridged version which hopefully reduces the verbiage. Fortunately not all of Charles Dickens works have the same problem.
"Legend comes to life"
I found that this was an interesting read and enjoyed the reader's telling of the tale. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys tales around Atlantis and beyond. Taliesin is a very good start to a version of the legend surrounding Arthur and Merlin.
"Time travel in a unique way"
I loved this book and found the way that this was presented was brilliant. I loved the 2 readers and found that they imparted personality to the characters well. I would recommend this anyone who enjoys good books.
"Essence captured very well"
I found that the reading of this book was excellent as the reader captures the essence of the characters and the times very well. The story comes across well as the reader is English so nothing is lost there too. I have alwasy enjoyed this story and will enjoy it more with this rendition. Well done!!!
"Good Read!"
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have both read and listened to it and enjoyed both. The reading brings across the fast pace as the reader is good at changing his tempo. I would heartily recommend this to anyone who enjoys a thriller.
"Great story!"
I have read every Dick Francis novel and enjoyed the audio presentation of this one very much. I have only 1 complaint, and that is that the reader does not make enough use of 'voices'. He has emotion etc and the book is well read and clear to listen to, but incomparison to some of the other readers he comes over as bland. I would still, however, recommend this to anyone who enjoys mystery without all the huge drama that sometimes comes along with it. It is realistic and the characters are likeable. I will get all the Dick Francis books I can that are available on audio.
"Wow! What can I say"
I read this book shortly after it came out and really enjoyed it. I have enjoyed this audio edition every bit as much! The reader coveyed all the right emotions and I found that I made every excuse I could to be in the car to listen to this wonderful tale. There is suspense, danger, adventure and plenty of background info. I found I wanted to be one of the students, even though they faced unimaginable dangers. To experience history like that would be interesting to say the least. I would recommend this title to any who enjoy thrilling adventure.
