"Narrrator: 1 star, Story 5 stars!"
How disappointing. I was a fan of the first 5 books narrarated by Marguerite Gavin. You become attached to the narrator, and although it can be a challange to adjust to a new narrator, it was not even a possibility to enjoy the story with the new narrator. Her voice is an irritating cross between Sarah Vowell and Ellen Degeneres. The pixies voices are like nails on a chalk board, but worse than that is the mis-pronounciation of words that we became familiar with in the previous books, "ley lines" "Piscary" and "Takata" are all wrong, wrong, wrong. I wish it didn't make such a difference to my enjoyment of Kim Harrison's work, but it does. I wish I had read the reviews before hand, I would have opted for the paperback.
"Riveting and Inspiring"
I purchased this because I am a beginning runner and I wanted some inspiration before my first 5K. To listen to Matt's story and what he endured and overcame was incredibly inspiring. I was riveted the entire time, when my device died I nearly had a panic attack because I had to wait for the battery to charge before I could continue listening to Matt's story. He is an incredible person, the story is awe inspiring and entirely worth the credit. You need to know about this human being!
"I actually fell in love with this one!"
Sometimes I don't want to waste my credit on a relatively short book like this one (7hrs 52m). But this was SO worth it! The story is sweet, characters are vivid and remind me of people I know in real life. They don't seem contrived in any way. I laughed out loud many times- the narrators are great! I am so happy that I invested my credit and listening time in this one!
"I wanted to like it, but...."
It was painfully tedious. I did enjoy the first couple hours, but then it came to a screeching halt. I stuck it out for the entire 37 hours, hoping for a big payoff, but the author didn't take me there.
There were interesting bits to the story- but I actually think I might have enjoyed the Abridged version much better. And I am typically opposed to Abridged anything!
"You won't be disappointed!"
This was a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Larsson fans will not be disappointed!
"Should have been edited way down"
The twilight series is a guilty pleasure for me. I don't really want to like it, but I can't help myself. In "New Moon" I enjoyed the development of Jacob's character, as well as his friends.
That said, SO much of this book could have been edited out without missing any of the story.
Meyer spent way too much energy describing (usually with the same adjectives) the angst and heartache of Bella. I found myself disliking Bella and wondering why Jacob would be attracted to such a mopey self-loathing Debbie Downer.
Worth the 2 credits? If you are already a Twilight Junkie, then of course! If not, I would go for the paperback so you can read at your own pace and skip over the many redundant passages.
"Gravely Disappointed"
I am a big fan of Charlaine Harris, particularly the Sookie Stackhouse series. I have read all books in the Harper Connelly series as well, and found this book, the final in the series, to be a drudging disappointment. I approached it with enthusiasm, excited to see how the story lines would be wrapped up. The conclusion was surprising and satisfactory, but the journey there was dull and I struggled to stay engaged.
I am sorry to report that I was extremely bored and not "transported" as I normally am with my Audible selections.
"A slow starter, but it pays off"
I am so glad that I stuck with this. I does start rather slow and takes a while to understand the characters and plot, but hang in there! It takes time to fully develop a worthwhile story! The characters are engrossing and the story is intricate...you MUST read this before "The Girl who played with Fire".
