No discussion of great modern authors is complete without mention of Cormac McCarthy, whose rare and blazing talent makes his every work a true literary event. A grand addition to the American literary canon, Suttree introduces readers to Cornelius Suttree, a man who abandons his affluent family to live among a dissolute array of vagabonds along the Tennessee river.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you are a fan of Faulkner, Steinbeck, Williams this is a most logical and welcome progression.

The promise, as I remember it, happened this way. Happy and content in his hometown of Aurora, Minnesota, Cork O'Connor has left his badge behind and is ready for a life of relative peace, setting up shop as a private investigator. But his newfound state of calm is soon interrupted when Henry Meloux, the Ojibwe medicine man and Cork's spiritual adviser, makes a request: Will Cork find the son that Henry fathered long ago?

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is the weakest of the Cork O'Conner series and the new narrator does not help.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Longmire series by Craig Johnson

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I've listened to David Chandler through both the C.J. Box and William Kent Krueger novels. Hearing this Buck guy tell the story, for me, is jarring and off-putting. I am certain Buck is a nice guy but he does not serve Joe Pickett or Cork O'Connorwell.

Did Thunder Bay inspire you to do anything?

Yes, look for another heartland/outdoors thriller author.
