This is the extraordinary story of John Carter, who returns to the Red Planet in search of his beloved, Dejah Thoris. John lands in the Valley Dor, which is populated by vicious plant men, and discovers the Lost Sea of Korus, guarded by the great white apes and horrifying lions of Barsoom. It is here that he finds the princess Thuvia, who is a captive of the Holy Therns, high priests who eat only human flesh slain by their plant men.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This followup had a different narrator then Scott Brick who i hate to say was vastly inferior. I don't know if it was his narration or the general tone that changed from book one to book 2 but the drop-off was the difference between great and mediocre. I am going to give book 3 a try now which has a different narrator yet.

Would you be willing to try another book from Edgar Rice Burroughs? Why or why not?

Yes i loved the 1st so i will give book 3 a try.

Would you be willing to try another one of William Dufris’s performances?

    NO!

    Any additional comments?

The style and science of this book were fantastic. It's amazing all of these concepts he arrived at when he did. Mr. Burroughs was truly crafting something beautiful and glorious from a concept that hadn't previously existed.

It's springtime in Styria. And that means war. There have been nineteen years of blood. The ruthless Grand Duke Orso is locked in a vicious struggle with the squabbling League of Eight, and between them they have bled the land white. While armies march, heads roll, and cities burn, behind the scenes bankers, priests, and older, darker powers play a deadly game to choose who will be king.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A lost art in the fantasy genre a complete tale in one novel. This story takes place in the same world as the First law series but it is a stand alone tale of revenge. New characters mix with smaller characters from the original series in a expanded role in a very interesting narrative that tells of the lands of Styria. Ambercrombie has a great gift for character development and crafting of high paced action. He is a tier below Martin, and Tolken in the fantasy genre...but I personally would call him my third favorite to read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really enjoy what was done with infamous mercenary Captain Nicimo Cosca. His rougish devil may care additude was a nice charge of pace for the gritty determained Monza.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Carlottis house of pleasure. Cool action scene with lots going on.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.

    Any additional comments?

They changed narrators for just this book and The Heroes. I won't say i was disappointed by the reading. it was fine. It was however inferior to Steven Pacey performance which was exceptional.

Bitter and merciless war is coming to the frozen north. It's bloody and dangerous and the Union army, split by politics and hamstrung by incompetence, is unprepared for the slaughter that's coming. Lacking experience, training, and in some cases even weapons, the army is scarcely equipped to repel Bethod's scouts, let alone his elite forces. In the heat-ravaged south, the Gurkish are massing to assault the city of Dagoska, defended by Inquisitor Glokta.

Would you listen to Before They Are Hanged again? Why?

I would. This was a book i had previously read but bought for my brother for Christmas. I got the audio books so that i could refresh myself with the series and discuss. Mr. Pacey's reading is nothing short of exceptional. Several well done voices with excellent emotion and inflection. His Glotka in particular really brings the character to life. Overall the series is a really interesting take on the traditional fantasy in the vein of George RR Martin. This second book focuses on Glotka's quest for truth against forein forces, a heroic journey, a military campaign against barbaric forces, and political intrigue in the capital of the Union. Lots of action and mysteries revealed all with Ambercrombie's trademark wit and visceral telling of grey stories and human characters. Highly recommended for any fans of the genre. Also recommended for fans of war and intrigue. Like Martin, this is fantasy for people who don't read fantasy.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Glotka surrounded on all sides by enemies within and without searching for answers.

Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

Would you listen to The Gunslinger again? Why?

Perhaps after reading some more of the series. I definitely feel it was a rich story full of details and imagery that could be explored a few times to really get the full experience.

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed the reference to other works, religions, time periods, and blending them seamlessly into one gritty tale. I also love the build up towards a redemption and the twist.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Guidall is the best narrator i have heard. He has so many voices in his range and the delivery really adds an inflection that brings the story to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I think they are making an HBO series.

If you could sum up Foundation in three words, what would they be?

    Possible, Infinite, extraordinary

What was one of the most memorable moments of Foundation?

The very first big reveal. It's no big mystery, Asimov tells you from the get go exactly where he is going with the story, yet, when you can't help being surprised it makes it that much more powerful.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

What if you had a map to lead you to the future? Would you know how to follow it?

    Any additional comments?

This is definitely one of the quintessential scifi tales from one of the masters. It is believable and incredibly imaginative at the same time. Scott Brick does a solid job at narration while trying to follow the inflection of the characters without trying to hard and stepping outside the bounds of narrator. A must have for scifi fans.

Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

Where does A Feast for Crows rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would say both by the novel and the audio performance this series is at the top of all audio books i have enjoyed.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The cast is so ensemble it is a difficult question for this series but for this book in particular the redemption arc of Jamie Lanister is especially compelling. It's is a truly complete picture of a broken man on the precipice.

Which character – as performed by Roy Dotrice – was your favorite?

I believe Mr. Dotrice does a masterful job of weaving seamlessly through multiple characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    All of the above.

    Any additional comments?

This series truly lives up to the hype. It defines what modern fantasy/scifi is and can be. A picture of realistic humans struggling through a limitless world. Martin constantly glides between the fantastical and the realistic with such ease it is easy to lose yourself in the tale.

Dubbed the American Tolkien by Time magazine, George R. R. Martin has earned international acclaim for his monumental cycle of epic fantasy. Would you consider the audio edition of A Dance with Dragons to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed both but with so much detail i would suggest reading print first then listening to audio after.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Dance with Dragons?

The Reek story line was incredible. Martins pseudo redemption of such a hated character was well crafted and as always perfectly walked the line of grey to show all spectrums of the human animal.

Have you listened to any of Roy Dotrice’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I listened to all of Song of Ice and Fire Audiobooks and Dotrice did a masterful job in all of them. I feel his ability to bring characters to life and the inflection he uses really adds another dimension to the text.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Ummm Winter is coming...they did that :)

    Any additional comments?

These books are the type that give the reader something new with every time through. I feel like this lends well to the audio book format.

The Wheel of Time turns and ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth returns again. For centuries, gleemen have told the tales of The Great Hunt of the Horn. So many tales about each of the Hunters, and so many Hunters to tell of. Now, the Horn itself is found: the Horn of Valere long thought only legend, the Horn which will raise the dead heroes of the ages.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really I was fairly disappointed many people who's opinion i respect talk about Robert Jordan like another George RR Martin or Tolkein. It just seems somewhat predictable, cheesy and uninspired. It wasn't awful...the imagery is very good . Just felt like i had read everything here already in Tolkein or Frank Herbert and they both did it better.

Would you recommend The Great Hunt to your friends? Why or why not?

I would not for the reasons i just stated.

What about Kate Reading and Michael Kramer ’s performance did you like?

I thought the vocal performance was probably the best part about this purchase

Do you think The Great Hunt needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It has several but after giving Jordan 2 books to draw me in with an open mind i will bot be purchasing the third

    Any additional comments?

I would instead recommend Joe Ambercrombie The First law series, The Black Company by Glen Cook, or The song of Ice and Fire George RR Martin

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obviously Simonine the main character was the only real focus. He was a great example of an unsympathetic character which we find fascinating. The portrayal of his twisted mind on its journey of revelation was one that kept me chomping at the bit for the next twist or turn through his historic voyage. I liked the idea of this true antihero detective trying to solve his own mystery for utterly selfish reasons which made his fantastic journey more believable.

If you could rename The Prague Cemetery, what would you call it?

    I like the title

    Any additional comments?

Somewhere between Sherlock Holmes, a Historic biography, and Fight Club. It's the type of book that makes learning fun.
