  • Euclid's Window: The Story of Geometry from Parallel Lines to Hyperspace

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 13 mins)

Through Euclid's Window Leonard Mlodinow brilliantly and delightfully leads us on a journey through five revolutions in geometry, from the Greek concept of parallel lines to the latest notions of hyperspace. Here is an altogether new, refreshing, alternative history of math revealing how simple questions anyone might ask about space -- in the living room or in some other galaxy -- have been the hidden engine of the highest achievements in science and technology.

    "Pointless Examples"
    Overall

While this book is full of interesting information the authors examples make the point he is trying to make overly complicated because he insists on injecting his version of humor into almost every one leaving the example hard and at times almost impossible to understand.

The book would have been much better if the author could have used some restraint in trying to prove his whit every 30 seconds.

  • Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!

With his characteristic eyebrow-raising behavior, Richard P. Feynman once provoked the wife of a Princeton dean to remark, "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman!" But the many scientific and personal achievements of this Nobel Prize-winning physicist are no laughing matter. Here, woven with his scintillating views on modern science, Feynman relates the defining moments of his accomplished life.

Charles says: "Inspiring book, HORRIBLE reader."
"Great Book, Not So Great Narrator."
    Overall

I would have given it 5 stars if not for the narration.

The book was great but they should have Dan Cashman narrate a version of this book like he did with "What Do You Care What Other People Think?: Further Adventures of a Curious Character" it would have been much more enjoyable to listen too.

One of the greatest physicists of the 20th century, Richard Feynman possessed an unquenchable thirst for adventure and an unparalleled ability to tell the story of his life. What Do You Care What Other People Think? is Feynman's last literary legacy, which he prepared as he struggled with cancer.

Steve says: "If you like Feynman (as I do) you will love it."
    "I Thoroughly Enjoyed This Book."
    Overall

I found it deeply touching how he explained his life with his first wife. I had always thought that there was something missing in "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!".

While I found the thorough explanation intriguing about the space shuttle disaster investigation I could see how someone that was not as interested in the subject could find the last half of this book a little mundane.

  • The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos

There was a time when “universe” meant all there is. Everything. Yet, in recent years discoveries in physics and cosmology have led a number of scientists to conclude that our universe may be one among many. With crystal-clear prose and inspired use of analogy, Brian Greene shows how a range of different “multiverse” proposals emerges from theories developed to explain the most refined observations of both subatomic particles and the dark depths of space.

The author should have done his listeners a service and had someone else narrate his book.
