As with just about all King novels, this one had good suspense and good dialogue. As is also true, no character is safe--something I like about his style. Since this is a review and not a discussion, I will only say that I saw little sense in the demise of the last character who died. But maybe that's just me. This novel had a good story. If you are a King fan, I recommend this novel. Even if you're not, you're likely to enjoy the ride. I enjoyed the narrator and thought he did an excellent job.
Believable characters that are well developed. No cardboard good vs evil. Excellent plot, good pacing, and no character is safe. This is not your predictable medieval fantasy epic. I also enjoyed the reader and thought he did a fine job. If the rest of the series matches this first book, I will be very pleased.
I did not like this book at all. I felt the storyline was contrived and the characters behaved in a completely unbelievable and unrealistic manner. I felt there was no suspense and the survival of the heros relied more on deux ex machina. The narration was fair, but it may not have been her fault given the material with which she had to work. I am surprised that there are so many positive ratings for this book.
