Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Would not recommend this audio book as it is read so badly as to distract one from the story on a regular basis. High school students reading in class would present a better perfomance. I plan to make note of this performer to ensure I don't purchase anything else that is read by her.

Would you be willing to try another one of Andrea Gallo’s performances?

    Never.

    Any additional comments?

I love this series because it's like an ideal small town that would be nice to live in.

Code Name Verity is a compelling, emotionally rich story with universal themes of friendship and loyalty, heroism and bravery. Two young women from totally different backgrounds are thrown together during World War II: one a working-class girl from Manchester, the other a Scottish aristocrat, one a pilot, the other a wireless operator. Yet whenever their paths cross, they complement each other perfectly and before long become devoted friends. But then a vital mission goes wrong....

Really enjoyed the book. I learned so much and the story was gripping. Both readers were superb. I would love it if this author wrote more books from this era.

But what was once an idyllic refuge becomes a place of unnatural occurrences and danger beyond the ordinary.

A special man who won’t try to change her or ask her to choose between him and her cats? Max Weller has a problem. His son, Derek, must complete community service for fighting at school. The only available place is the stray cat shelter. But Derek is terrified of cats from a frightening childhood experience. How will they get through this traumatic experience?

I love cats, and have volunteered at a cat shelter which were the only reasons I persevered with this story. Unfortunately, I found the reader distracted me. It seemed as though she was on the verge of giggling the whole time; I could picture the rest of her high school class making faces at her and trying to get her to laugh while she struggled to get through the romantic parts.
In regards to the writer, I think she will improve with experience.

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends. Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

It took two tries to get into this book but was glad I persevered. I found that the reading style at the beginning a bit bombastic and loud, coupled with a difficult-to-understand accent. I believe that some of this has to do with the writing (Roberts isn't perfect 100% of the time) and partly the reader loudly and quickly emoting all the action. Once the story caught up with present times, I really enjoyed it. The reader is fabulous and does accents well.

Why do people find it so hard to change? The secret is that everyone has their own formula for making changes that stick, but most people don't know what theirs is. They think there is one way to lose five pounds, and another way to stay on top of their e-mail, but they don't realize that for all changes, there is one system that works best for each individual.

Some people mentioned that they found the reader challenging; I thought her performance was just fine. While clearly not a professional reader, it didn't matter because she was imparting ideas. (Her style of reading might have interrupted the flow of a story, but this is not that type of book.) Often I had to stop the recording to digest some of these ideas, which I would have done while reading a paper copy of this book as well. This book is well worth hearing and gives some useful advice. I'm glad I have it in my library; I will refer to it again, perhaps even once a year when I'm making resolutions.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life — a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

If you could sum up The Search in three words, what would they be?

    Romance with Dogs

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The mystery portion was a bit weak.

What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Voice characterization

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes

    Any additional comments?

Not Nora Roberts' best but not her worst. Was entertaining and I really enjoyed the dog training parts.
