"Great series but disappointing ending"
I was very pleased and enthralled with the majority of this series of books, but the ending was very anticlimactic and left a lot to be desired. The authored created an interesting world and intriguing characters and I have seen some crossover of these characters and this world in his other works, but the end of this particular series just left me disappointed and wanting something a little better. It almost seemed like after creating such a vivid story, he could not figure out a good way to end the series. Overall I recommend the series as a good read (or listen as the case may be) for those who like fantasy with a dark edge.
"The narrator ruins the book for me"
All publishers please note, it is just an incredible crime to switch narrators in the middle of a series. You have really done a disservice to this series of books. This book should be re-recorded with Roy Dotrice as for those of us listening to this series, he is the voice of the series.
The new narrator reads it as if he is doing a dramatic reading from the bible. It is really poorly done and very disconcerting to those who have listened to the first 3 books.
I personally will check multibook series in the future to make sure they use the same narrator throughout the series, if they do not, I will not buy the series in audio format.
I note that Roy Dotrice has been brought back for the 5th book, hopefully the publisher reads some of the reviews and maintains the rest of the series.
"Not bad..."
Thought the book was very good for the most part. I found the author misused a couple of terms, but they were close enough for artistic license. What I found disappointing was the ending which I felt was very unresolved in many ways. I would recommend the book and think it was a novel concept, just wish the author had made different choices with the ending.
