"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem.

Listen to the Audible sample of this book and decide if it's for you. I am a professional over-50 woman not particularly fond of violence but I found this book laugh-out-loud hilarious! I thought the narrator did a wonderful job. The premise is so ridiculous that it becomes fascinating to see how the author weaves it in with the original classic story. I LOVE reading and audiobooks but had never read Pride and Prejudice. I went out and bought it after listening to this book so I could appreciate both more. Listen to this for pure entertainment and an enjoyment of farce as long as you are not offended by descriptions of what zombies do. I don't think Seth Grahame-Smith ripped anyone off by authoring this book.

This is my second John Scalzi /Wil Wheaton audiobook and I am hooked. I'm not normally much of a sci-fi fan, but I really enjoy how he makes wildly improbable scenarios work out. The narrator is a really good fit for Scalzi's style. Also liked how he fit a Golden Retriever into the story. It was very funny, a little sad, and uplifting all at once. Highly recommended listen.

Alexander McCall Smith’s No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series has become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to the appeal of endearing protagonist Precious Ramotswe and the author’s charmingly quirky prose. In this 13th installment, Mma Ramotswe’s attention is focused on a pesky disciplinary problem at her adopted daughter’s school - while Grace Makutsi adjusts to wedded bliss and the famed Clovis Andersen arrives in Botswana looking for more than bush tea.

I always enjoy this series, largely because of Lisette Lecat. She makes me want to talk like a Botswana native! This story didn't seem as well developed as some of the earlier books in the series, but it is still very enjoyable. I particularly enjoy Precious' internal struggles with retaining her moral principles while being sure that the culprit is appropriately punished. The gentle humor and constant reminders of the value in taking the time to slow down and appreciate the world around you is a refreshing change from murder and mayhem.

I loved this audiobook. The narrator was very good. The author definitely knows and loves dogs and is adept at communicating the different relationships that develop between dogsand humans. I rarely get emotional reading or listening to books, but this one had me literallly in tears more than once, but in a good way. Suspend your beliefs about the afterlife, at least as it applies to dogs, and enjoy a really good book.
