  • The Devil Wears Prada

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Lauren Weisberger
    • Narrated By Bernadette Dunne
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Andrea Sachs, a small-town girl fresh out of college, is hired as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the successful editor of Runway magazine. Andrea finds herself in an office that shouts Prada! Armani! Versace! at every turn. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, Andrea begins to realize that the job a million girls would die for may just kill her. And even if she survives, she has to decide whether the job is worth the price of her soul.

"You won't be able to stop the player"

We listened to this book on a long car trip, and we almost ran out of gas listening to it because we didn't want to stop! The story goes from one unbelievable action to another, and just when you think you've seen the most selfish act on earth, another comes along. The narration is flawless.

Just make sure you start on a full tank and you have fresh batteries in your audio player! Don't miss this one.

  • Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Martin Lindstrom
    • Narrated By Don Leslie
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Based on the single largest neuromarketing study ever conducted, Buyology reveals surprising truths about what attracts our attention and captures our dollars.

Erik Cornelissen says: "What we think we know versus how we act in buying."
"A compelling listen - you can't click on 'stop'"
Would you listen to Buyology again? Why?

The information in this book is relevant to anyone who doesn't live in a cave. The marketers are out there trying to trick and intice us to look at their wares. Knowing that it's all a trick may help you avoid some purchases you don't really need and if nothing else, will help you select products and services based on their actual value and not what the marketers want you to believe.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Examples of how we're manipulated come from everyday life. The author shows examples that really do relate to just about everyone. As the stories unfold, you find yourself riveted to the car seat (we were driving to Kentucky at the time) to see what was behind the smoke & mirrors.

    Any additional comments?

I like to listen to books about psychology & behavior and I'd have to rate Buyology as one of the best I've purchased in my many years with Audible. I'm looking forward to listening to more of Lindstrom's work.

  • Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Al Franken
    • Narrated By Al Franken

Finding logical inconsistencies, factual errors, and doublespeak wherever he looks, Al Franken takes on and destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, hoists the Bush White House on its own rhetorical petard, and punctures the mean-spirited sanctimony of such media darlings as Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always uproarious, Lies is sure to raise hackles and spark hilarity inside the Beltway and from sea to shining sea.

Peter says: "Franken's One Sided View"
    "Well worth the money"

I don't agree with Al's politics (he's a bit too liberal for my tastes) but I'm impressed by the thoroughness of his research and the presentation. I'd recommend this to anyone interested in politics, and I only hope that someone on the right comes up with a similar book based on honesty rather than lies.

  • Science Fiction Favorites

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Isaac Asimov
    • Narrated By Isaac Asimov

This selection of some of Asimov's most enduring and unforgettable stories is read by the author himself. These vintage tales encompass the full range of Asimov's versatility, while displaying his puckish sense of humor.

    Jeff says: "Entertaining and personal"
    "Science Fiction Favorites"

Asimov's voice is awful. The stories are just so-so, and the narration in between stories makes him sound like a pompous ass. I had read some of his work years ago and remembered liking it, but I'm sorry I wasted the money on this collection.
