The meeting place was carefully chosen: an abandoned church in rural Ireland just after dark. For Jonathan Quinn--a freelance operative and professional "cleaner" - the job was only to observe. If his cleanup skills were needed, it would mean things had gone horribly wrong. But an assassin hidden in a tree assured just that. And suddenly Quinn had four dead bodies to dispose of and one astounding clue - to a mystery that is about to spin wildly out of control.

Would you consider the audio edition of Shadow of Betrayal to be better than the print version?

Definitely, especially with Scott Brick as the narrator.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. The focus required by Quinn and Nate to find each other in the obscure island was terrific. Once having a tiny piece of information and then continuing to piece the puzzle together. The characters were heroic.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

    Quinn

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I couldnt stop listening, always on the edge of my seat. No laughing or crying, just rooting for the Quinn and his team.

    Any additional comments?

Can't wait for Brett Battle's next book.

Anti-Terrorist Task Force agent John Corey and his wife, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, have been posted overseas to Sana'a, Yemen - one of the most dangerous places in the Middle East. While there, they will be working with a small team to track down one of the masterminds behind the USS Cole bombing: a high-ranking Al Qaeda operative known as The Panther. Ruthless and elusive, he's wanted for multiple terrorist acts and murders - and the U.S. government is determined to bring him down, no matter the cost.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Action, action, action. Demille writes like LeCarre. Just boring stuff until the last 3 chapters.

Has The Panther turned you off from other books in this genre?

Never, I love this genre but DeMille dropped the ball.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Not Scott's fault, he is a wonderful narrator and it's not his fault that the story was uninteresting, more of the same blah blah blah, until finally he meets with the Panther.

What character would you cut from The Panther?

The characters were okay, only that the story was uninteresting and boring.

    Any additional comments?

I think Demille should read the latest books by Baldacci and Flynn. They start off with action and suspense and keep the interest level high thru-out their novels.

What did you love best about The Forgotten?

The main character Is like the James Bond of the military. Action, suspense and a great story. Baldacci gets you hooked as quickly as the story begins and never lets up.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Forgotten?

The two adversaries finally coming together in the fight to against slavery. Both heros are each a dynamic force.

What does Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Of course, their voices....reading the story as if they too are in " the fight". Voices with the correct timber at all times.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Definitely

    Any additional comments?

I didn't think that any book from Baldacci could be as good as the heros in the Camel Club. It was an awesome, exciting listen.

Somewhere, deep inside the United States government, is a deadly list. Members of Congress never get to see it and only the president has the final say over it. Once your name is on the list, it doesn't come off - until you're dead. Someone has just added counterterrorism operative Scot Harvath's name to the list. Somehow, Harvath must evade the teams dispatched to kill him long enough to untangle who has framed him and why they want him out of the way.

What did you love best about Black List?

The intensity of the fast paced storyline. being able to identify with the hero is especially exciting, his bravery in face of all the danger. Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Black List?

All moments were memorable, most especially, the loss of his partner, the agony , sadness and then, his conviction to get the killers.

What does Armand Schultz bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Perfectly read; understandable with just the right emotion.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"black List" more intense than any other "list" ever produced.

  • The Fallen Angel: Gabriel Allon, Book 12

After narrowly surviving his last operation, Gabriel Allon, the wayward son of Israeli intelligence, has taken refuge behind the walls of the Vatican, where he is restoring one of Caravaggio's greatest masterpieces. But early one morning he is summoned to St. Peter's Basilica by Monsignor Luigi Donati, the all-powerful private secretary to his Holiness Pope Paul VII. The body of a beautiful woman lies broken beneath Michelangelo's magnificent dome.

Where does The Fallen Angel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I was saddened to listen to the story and feel that my hero is getting older, seems to have lost his "edge".

Too muchtime was spent listening to the comments of Allon's superiors and colleagues reminding Allon that he is getting older and might not be up to the mission assigned. Otherwise, the story was only a little better than mediocre. One could almost believe that Shamran was more up to the task than our hero.

Compared to the other books by DeSilva and the main character, Allon, it was disappointing? Where is the suspense? I could determine the ending of the story once I was only 10 pages into the book.

DeSilva has been one of my favorite authors, up until now. Spiffy up Allon, get his energy and excitement back, his always knowing how to handle any situation with valor and confidence as in all the previous novels, even if he gets a bit older.

Would you be willing to try another book from Daniel Silva? Why or why not?

Yes, I'm willing to give the author another chance.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not sure. He is however a wonderful narrator

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Choose another book, The Fallen Angel is not the best!

    Any additional comments?

    No more "dark" novels.

Henry Steadman didn't know what was about to hit him when he pulled up to a red light. A successful Florida plastic surgeon, he is in town to deliver a keynote address at a conference when suddenly his life becomes an unrelenting chase to stay alive.

Stopped by the police for a minor traffic violation, the situation escalates and he is pulled from his vehicle, handcuffed, and told he is under arrest. Several other police cars arrive and the questioning turns scary, but just as Henry is released and about to move on, a blue sedan pulls up and the officer is suddenly killed. As the car speeds away, there is only one suspect left behind - Henry.

What did you love best about 15 Seconds?

The excellent dramatation of the storyline. The unknowing reason why the hero is being persecuted and loosing his life as he knows it.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes indeed. I could never anticipate the next event about to be unfolded. I became just as irritated as the hero when all these terrible things started to happen to him. Once the reader finally understands, then it's a race to the finish to see it good can conquer evil.

Which character – as performed by Christian Hoff – was your favorite?

The hero, of course. I also identified with the woman who helps him from Community Relations of the local Police Dept.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Absolutely.

    Any additional comments?

Truly an excellent read, the best drama I've read in a very long time. It compares to "Hold Tight" by Harlan Coben.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Not my usual kind of book, but thought I would listen and either agree or disagree with all the fuss. Much to my surprise, it grabbed me with the first paragraph and its been an absolute wonderful, awesome read. The descriptions of each character were written to perfection; their voices, perfect. The lives, dreams and disappointments are today, so hard to imagine. I found myself pulling for each person and saying outloud "yes yes yes". an inspiring story. A definite favorite.

Excellent! the best book of 2008 by far. A thriller beyond imagination, that might even happen in our own backyard!! Characters are well developed, the good guys are truly good, loyal and perfection itself. the "bad" guys are tough, ugly and meet all expectations. With everyone, good and/or bad, their lives are all entwined to bring this novel to the most thrilling, unexpected end.

Three cheers to Halan Coben. and three cheers to your best Narrator, Scott Brick.

What seemed at first to be a horrific individual catastrophe proves to have wider implications. The autopsy reveals evidence of long-term abuse, of ritualistic self-mutilation, but when Sara and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver start to investigate, they are frustrated at every turn.

Sharon says: "Great read, I can't put her books down."
    "disappointing"

Heroines should never be wimpy, emotional on the job or think it alright to become emotionally vulnerable to a teenage boy. My heroines need grit and substance. I could not even finish the book as I was gagging on the interaction between a grown, supposedly professional woman of the law and a sly troubled child!! Sorry Karin Slaughter but I shall not be reading any of your books again for awhile.
