I love this series and have read the books since I was young. One of the things that I loved about the audiobooks was the Brain Jaques read the stories himself. For some reason he isn't the narrator of this book. If you've listened to other books in this series you'll recognize most of the same actors. Still a wonderful story and well done. I just missed the voice of Brian Jaques
The story is slow and amateurish. It feels like at 16 year old view of the world and love. Calli acts like a selfish 18 year old and so do her friends, their relationships superficial and weak. Levi is almost as bad, running off when the going gets really tough. All in all, badly written and the story line is weak with only the occasional interesting moment.
Romances are hit a miss at best. This is defiantly a miss.
She's got a very young voice and takes a teenager's tone through the narration. I often forgot that the characters are supposed to be in their late twenties not their teens.
I was just glad when it was over, willing to finish it but glad when it finally reached it's cliche ending.
If you like superficial and bland stories this will work for you. But don't expect much, it doesn't have much to give.
Defiantly the narrator. Kevin does a good job with the characters and keeps your interested through the story.
The sound effects and the music. It's unusual to find an audiobook that incorporates sound effects without being a dramatized, abridged recording. Some of the effects are a little messy, but it added an interesting level to the experience.
It's an interesting story. Granted it is a YA book and the story is a little cliche and predictable. But I liked the twist on the idea. I've gotten so sick of love sick vampire stories that seem to prevalent right now. The love story doesn't get as sappy as most YA stories. I downloaded the book after seeing the trailer for the movie. I'm interested to see how the story conveys to the big screen.
It's a twist on Romeo and Juliet. I liked Karou, she's such a refreshing female lead. She's fun, sassy, capable, and she has blue hair. The setting just adds whimsy to this book. I'm eager for the next book to see where it goes. Until than I guess I keep reloading it on my phone as my backup book.
Am I the only one who wanted her to dump Seth and go to Vegas? I get the ending and I get the reason Richelle wrapped it up like that. But she had such a good set up with the Vegas storyline I wish she'd gone with it rather then going the way she did.
Didn't read the book
Yes, but with a warning that the book is rather lacking in originality and gets rather boring after a while.
I love James so much. This book sadly is far from his best.
Nope, at best I got a little sick to my stomach when the book got a little overly graphic while the main vampire was drinking blood. It bordered on pornographic at times.
This book is a good example of a good attempt failing to impress. As others have said its a book with vampires and steampunk. I would add that it also has element of Disney Beauty and the Beast thrown in. Sadly it gets a little drawn out and not even one of my favorite narrators could save it.
The main character while a little whiny at times is a decent female lead. But the main vampire is depressingly mainstream and moody. But I'm a fan of the Dracula era vampires over the twilight era we're currently living in.
To sum up; not anything out of the ordinary. Gets a little lovey dovey and graphic at times. James Marsters rocks.
It's an interesting twist on American history. It does get a little rambling at times and the ending does leave something to be desired. It's all build-up build-up and ending with little closure. But an interesting one maybe two time listen.
They story is quite fun and the narrator is quite nice to listen to. At times my mind began to wonder and I got a bit lost when I tuned back in. But all in all a nice book to listen to if your not doing anything to distracting. Her male voices all tend to sound the same which also can be a bit confusing. But if you like romances you will enjoy this story.
A great story to have while your working or doing stuff around the house. I've read these stories since I was a kid and love to be able to listen to them while I'm filing papers at work!
