Kirk from Pawleys Island nailed it! Bobby Cannavale has excelled at his craft in the narration of another Price work of notable acclaim.
The plot is interesting and informative without being overly "crime-novel" mundane. Price has captured a realistic image of the NYC tempo in the rapid fire switching of the story characters and scenes.
Cannavale performs the work with masterful application of Lower East side accent, street-talk and colorful emphasis of the characters personalities.
Highly recommended for those who want a view into a slice of 21st century NYC culture and are not intimidated by it.
Note to reviewers who have expressed some level of disappointment in the work: This is not a love story.

The book is destined to become a classic, no doubt. I am very disappointed, however, that a MAP did not accompany my purchase. When you consider the importance of this tool to the mission, (a fact that Ambrose recognized and strongly emphasized in the text) it remains unbelievable to me that a simple map which traced the L&C path (up the Missouri and across the Rockies to the Pacific) could not have been provided to the reader. It would add untold enjoyment if one could have consulted a somewhat detailed a map of the territory, as it was known then and another of the modern day view, as the journal unfolded.

I cannot believe that this suggestion went unnoticed during publication. I am curious as to whom and why it was shot down.
