"A feel good story"
I've listened to a lot of E.Lynn Harris' stories and like the characters who show up again and again. In some parts of this book everyone was too nice to believe but overall I could accept them. The readers of all his stories are good and I always find it easy to get into the story. A few times the audio repeated sentences but that was okay. A few more "evil" people or "evil" acts would have added spice but maybe next book.
"Narrator and Story are very entertaining"
Yes, enjoy this series. Have been waiting a while for this character's story and it is a good one from the start. I am also enjoying this new narrator - he doesn't detract from the story and brings his own brand to it and makes it little different than the previous ones.
All of them, finally getting a deeper look into Steele's team
Don't let the other reviewers comments on the narrator deter you from this story. While I enjoyed Harry Berkeley for the other ones, he can be a little bit over dramatic. This narrator gives this story a fresh voice and does the storyline proud. There won't be any confusion on who is speaking. Just jump in for a good Maya Banks adventure.
"Readers Voice takes away from sweet story"
Always love Suzanne Brockmann books - this one had a nice story that kept you engaged. However the readers slow voice with a lot of stiltedness (is that a word) made it a little annoying and grating. And her voice is so much older than the female character. I don't know if she was trying to modulate her voice like Bostonians but it was not pleasant. Loved johnny though, as a character.
"Just shut up already"
Okay, this is more about the author and the book and less about the reader. The author likes to throw in every phrase he possibly can when one will do. It's tiresome and indulgent and screams "see how many words I know, aren't I clever?" He can't just say - "she was nervous", he has to say in 5 more phrases "her pulse raced, her pulse raced like she was running a marathon, like a marathon run by ..., blah blah blah." So when you're listening to an audiobook, it's magnified a hundred times. You want to say, "we get it, move on or shut up". The reader has a good voice that matches the character but the words she has to read are so tedious and tiresome. I'm struggling to get through this.
"Enjoyable listen"
I liked the plot and characters of this book. Had some real excitement and unique "murders". Only had two small annoyances, the reader had such a gravelly voice that took some getting used to but never really felt right and the author threw in some "copspeak" lingo that wasn't familiar and felt ostentatious and was unnecessary. Would recommend this to anyone.
"Author proves herself again"
I love S.E. Phillips books and audiobooks and loved this one too. The reader did a wonderful job and made all the characters sound authentic. It's a story that draws you and keeps you and you don't want to stop. Love all the southern touches and have listened to it twice already.
"Good story and interesting story setting"
I enjoyed this book and the added interest of gems and jewelry. The reader was okay but the scratchy voice used could be a little off-putting. It kept my interest and moved at a good pace with some good twists and turns thrown in. Once in a while the plot seemed so obvious to me that you wanted to yell at the characters to think logically, but that means I was involved in the book so that is a good thing. Would read another by this author given the opportunity.
"Read and Listen to more from this author"
Great book. The reader did the characters very well and enhanced an already great story. Interesting twists and turns to the story and you get drawn in to the story immediately. I will definitely try other books by her.
"Wow, good story and emotional"
Good characters in this book and the narrator has a pleasant voice that fits his character. The story at first seems predictable but then throws in some curves and you just can't be sure what will happen next. Very heartwarming and appealing.
"Lots of fun and some great characters"
This was an engaging book with so many characters to love, hate, sneer at, and more. If you're a sports fan, it's even funner. So much happens to keep you going along in the story. You find yourself picking up lots of the dialogue and saying them to others cause it's so good. Would like to have a sequel to this book.
