Spent a good amount of time rolling my eyes. Could have been good, I suppose... I found the execution lacking and the inconsistent narration did not help.
I enjoyed the book and the narration was OK. I listened to the book over a 2 day period and didnt want to put it down, In that sense it was good. I hated the music, it was too loud and annoying - I am thinking maybe that is on just the enhanced version? If so, avoid that version - it is just too distracting. If you are looking for an entertaining book, and good story this might be it - it kept me interested all the way through.
Five stars is a pretty heafty rating for any book. However the latest in the Longmire Mysteries is so clever and entertaining I couldn't resist. Junkyard Dogs won't win the Pulitzer and if you are looking for deep you are looking in the wrong end of the pool. Yes, I admit it, I am a 53 year old female who never in a million years thought I'd enjoy a Cowboy Sheriff Mystery and I've enjoyed everyone of the books in this series (all rated 4 stars). Junkyard Dogs tops my list. I chuckled for nearly all of the short seven and half hours it took to listen. Are you looking for light entertainment that leaves you wanting more? Spend your credit!
My Mother gave me this book. While the material is not new, it is good. It is just what I needed to jump start the next 1/3 of my life. Yes, the theme is Get Up and Move and yes that has been said over and over in hundreds of other books - this one hit home, it put in such a way the importance of exercise I GOT it.I am not an athlete, not even close to being fond of exercise and since listening to the book (and reading it) I have been swimming daily, yoga a couple times a week and water aerobics to boot Works for me. I have purchased 3 copies and given them to my dearest friends.
Disappointed. There were no reviews when I bought the book . I based my purchase on the description. that was a mistake. I may not be able to finish it. I am finding it tediously dull - I am not sure if it is the fault of the narrator , the story or both.
After Pillars of the Earth and World Without End I was excited to submerge myself in Ken Follet’s latest work and another of John Lee’s narrations. Yikes. There is such a disconnect between those books and this. In Fall of Giants the characters are flat - the reading takes me back to story time in grade school, overly dramatic, the conversations between and of characters seemed contrived, unimaginative, unnatural and even laughably serious. Maybe I remember Pillars and World with a distorted and unfounded fondness which made it difficult for this book to compete – I don’t know – it seems these were written to ride on the shirt tales of success of the others (?) I don’t get it.
Once I got past the shock of the child’s voice and settled into the book I was swept away. Another reviewer mentions this as the best listen since The Help - I agree, almost. While remarkable, I can see how it could be monotonous- if it weren't for the wonder of the circumstances - simplicity and clarity of the story telling. Give it a chance, listen longer than the first 5-10 minutes, get past the startling pitch of "Jacks" voice.
After listening to Kate Morton’s ‘Forgotten Garden’ I rushed to find her other titles. It was difficult, very difficult, to get past the first part of the book, dull and fragmented - painfully choppy however once past the screen shots and other theatrical mumbo jumbo it made sense - flowed and totally captured me. Glad I did. Glad I found another Kate Morton title AND glad I gave the book a chance- past the intro. I Couldn’t put ‘The House at Riverton’ down.
Easy to listen to, entertaining - a new book to add to my favorites! Will go find other Kate Morton titles and hope they are to be as prized!
