"No Action"
If you like thrilling, fast paced action ‘Next’ might not suit your tastes. It is very slow to introduce the characters (half of the book!) and then, they never did anything – and I mean nothing! It was a struggle for me to focus and pay attention because it seemed there was little to pay attention to. I have to confess that about half way through I just stopped listening to ‘Next” and went to another book in my library. Perhaps the second half of the book was exciting and attention grabbing. Perhaps I’ve cheated myself out of a very satisfying listen by stopping too soon. I have never been one to ‘give up’ on a book, but in all honesty, it was a relief to stop this one.
"Good - solid read"
I found "False Memory" to be entertaining and suspenseful, well worth my time and money. While it was long and contained much insight into each character, I like that depth of character development to provide reason why the characters act and react the way they do.
I tend to buy Dean Koontz' books simply because he wrote them and partly because I always enjoy the various levels in his writing. The story line is usually entertaining but you can also read them looking for a social commentary, a moral or occasionally spiritual implication, or with an understanding look culture and humanity. Bottom line: his books are engaging and meant to be read for pleasure - and they are! Enjoy!
