"Breathtaking!"
I waited months to get this audiobook as the 3rd volume in this triology of family, intermingled with unique historic events.
Awesome story - the characters come to life with this narrator. Bryce is not a predictable writer and there wasn't a moment in all 3 volumes (50 hours!) that wasn't engaging.
I can't believe the story has ended. I've downloaded all of his titles - can't wait for more.
Bravo Mr. Courtenay!
"Forest Gump meets The Winds of War..."
So much of this story has been told before in the Herman Wouk book. At every turn of history there is a character present to witness the event.
The accent of the Buffalo woman is NOT a New York City accent - a very grating rendition.
I bought 2 of these audiobooks, not going to buy the 3rd one. Sorry, author... but enough is enough.
"Political shenanigans of the 20th century rehashed"
I was excited to listen to this book, but it remains 1/2 finished. I find the heroine's abilities too much to be believed. Young, naive and inexperienced in the world, but able to deduce how all the sneaky political games are being played and be a key part of the legal team strategy. Really??
Good premise for a novel, but the female character ruins the storyline.
"Wow! Inventive & Captivating!"
I was getting in a slump finding books that were addictive & unable to stop, but this book is incredible. The narration is excellent and the story just blows your mind. It is intriguing and mind-provoking.
A great cast of characters and a unique storyline. There was a lot of wry humor and it made the characters come alive.
Well done!
"Keeps you guessing till the last paragraph!"
Very intriguing storyline. The transitions between the characters were very easy to follow. I would make up my mind about the conclusion, then be jolted back to indecision in the next minute. Well done novel - worth every penny.
"Predictable..."
It took a while to get in sync with the past & present story line flipping back & forth but in the end, it was a predictable tale of obsessed love. The "suspense" was weak, the story dragged on too long while waiting for the "thrill" to arrive.
I wish Audible would allow long-term annual subscribers at least one "do-over" to be able to negate a purchase & find a new audiobook without using a credit. This one would surely qualify for a "do-over"
"Interesting story, lousy narration"
The narration of this book is done by a woman who reads way to fast & at a high pitch that is very annoying. After 30 minutes, I had to turn it off & take a break as the voice was too shrill & way to fast
"Boring....I feel like I'm in a botany lecture"
Don't waste your time. The narration is so plodding & methodical & hard to stay with. I thought I'd support a local author but I just wasted 1 credit. Yawn.....
"Boring....!"
This book drones on & on. It almost put me to sleep in a busy NYC airport & I almost missed my plane.
Should have been a short story, does not have enough material for a book.
Wish I could get 1 credit back...........
"L-O-N-G and tedious - horrid narration!"
This sure sounded like a good mystery, but it took almost 4 hours to get to the meat of the story.....
The narration is absolutely HORRID!! Monotone, too fast and the worst female voices ever, especially the British detective!
Conversations between the characters is almost impossible to determine who is speaking & it's very easy to loose track of what is happening.
Save your sanity & pass this one by - it's NOT worth it!
"Great story but Ho-Hum narration"
This classic is ruined by the narration - no inflection - almost a monotone. Took me months to get through it - I could only stand the narrator for about 1-2 hours!
Get the book - but find another narrator!
