Based in part on Dickens's own life, it is the story of a young man's journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among its gloriously vivid cast of characters, he e.ncounters his tyrannical stepfather, Mr. Murdstone; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble yet treacherous Uriah Heep; the frivolous, enchanting Dora; and one of literature's great comic creations, the magnificently impecunious Mr. Micawber.

    "Simply Amazing"
    Overall

I was admittedly intimidated by the length of this work and have passed reading this book in the past. However, my like of all things Dickens drove me to purchase this book and I have to say, it is one of the most delightful reads in my experience. Simon Vance is an amazing narrator and brings this story to life. The story is so full of richness and experience. I highly recommend this book.

Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the Congressional Gold Medal, Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel offers an unforgettable account of Hitler's horrific reign of terror in Night. This definitive edition features a new translation from the original French by Wiesel's wife and frequent translator, Marion Wiesel.

Would you listen to Night again? Why?

I cannot say that I would listen to night again, the only reservation being it is a very hard read. The disregard for humanity described in this book is heart wrenching.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Night?

The arrival at the first concentration camp, where Elie and his father are separated from their wife/mother and sister . The depiction of the chimneys of the crematorium are haunting.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    The liberation of the camp

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could not listen in one sitting; it was necessary to take a break.

Anyone who saw an episode of Saturday Night Live between 1999 and 2006 knows Rachel Dratch. She was hilarious! So what happened to her? After a misbegotten part as Jenna on the pilot of 30 Rock, Dratch was only getting offered roles as "Lesbians. Secretaries. Sometimes secretaries who are lesbians." Her career at a low point, Dratch suddenly had time for yoga, dog- sitting, learning Spanish - and dating. After all, what did a forty-something single woman living in New York have to lose?

Would you consider the audio edition of Girl Walks into a Bar... to be better than the print version?

I cannot say as I do not own the print version

What other book might you compare Girl Walks into a Bar... to and why?

Bossy pants, because Tina Fey and Rachael Dratch have a lot of the same perspectives on life. Both are witty and frank when discussing personal topics

Have you listened to any of Rachel Dratch’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me laugh out loud a few times
