Didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Loved the whole idea of getting a make-over and the author makes you love Kate with her quirky sense of humor. Will listen to this one more than once.

Filled with humor and hardship, this novel sings with what the author calls "a poetry of the vernacular". A finalist for the National Book award, Ivan Doig, who has published 11 books, has been hailed as the "West's preeminent literary novelist" by the Denver Post.

Grew quite attached to the brother character. Was a little disappointed with the ending - not as happily-ever-after as I like, but acceptable. Character flaws seemed a out weigh the context of the book - but the writing was good and I got used to the narrator. It was a one-time read, enjoyable, worth the $4.95 sale price.

    "Delightful, satisfying, clean"
    Overall

Loved it as well as Georgette Heyer stories. Clean, free of profanity or immorality. All the characters are delightful, except the ones we are meant to dislike and they are not "dark" characters, just characters you love to hate. Very satisfying wrapping of of details. Narrator was perfect- will listen to this many times again.

RITA Award finalist and Christy Award winner Julie Klassen delivers historical romances brimming with the eloquence and intensity of Jane Austen. In an abandoned gatehouse on an old estate, Mariah Aubrey lives in seclusion. She supports herself by writing novels in secret—at a time when such writing is considered improper and unladylike. Soon the wealthy and ambitious Captain Bryant leases the estate and is intrigued by the beautiful girl in the gatehouse.

    "Disgusting"
    Overall

Disgusted by the never-ending profanity, homosexuality, promotion of teen promiscuity, pushing of evolution and anti-Christian rhetoric. Could have skipped the first half of the book because of all the garbage the author was spewing. He should have spent more time on the plot instead of propaganda. Had a very weak ending. Will not even listen to the next book even though I already purchased it.
