Following his #1 New York Times best seller Our Endangered Values, the former president, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, offers an assessment of what must be done to bring permanent peace to Israel, with dignity and justice for Palestine.

Terrific insight and analysis by President Carter. More than any other person alive, Carter understands the history and inside story of the conflict. Hopefully, our leaders are reading or listening to him.

On a damp October night, beautiful young Ashley Cordova is found dead in an abandoned warehouse in lower Manhattan. Though her death is ruled a suicide, veteran investigative journalist Scott McGrath suspects otherwise. As he probes the strange circumstances surrounding Ashley’s life and death, McGrath comes face-to-face with the legacy of her father: the legendary, reclusive, cult-horror-film director Stanislas Cordova - a man who hasn’t been seen in public for more than thirty years.

Orson Scott Card is a master storyteller, who has earned millions of fans and reams of praise for his previous science-fiction and fantasy works. Now he steps a little closer to the present day with this chilling look at a near-future scenario: a new American Civil War. The American Empire has grown too fast, the fault lines at home are stressed to the breaking point, and the war of words between Right and Left has collapsed into a shooting war.

Andrea says: "Good pace, weak premise"
    "Lame"
    Overall

I liked Enders Game but this one just didn't live up to Card's abilities.

David Wolfe's life is approaching an exhilarating peak: a successful San Francisco lawyer, he's about to get married and has been primed for a run for Congress. But when the phone rings and he hears the voice of Hana Arif, the Palestinian woman with whom he had a passionate affair in law school, he begins a completely unexpected journey. The day after Hana's call, the prime minister of Israel is assassinated by a suicide bomber - and soon Hana is accused of being the mastermind behind the murder.

Great book and terrific insight into both the Palestinian and Israeli points of view. Also, would recommend President Carters recent book - Palestine.

I really like Enders Game and Speaker for the Dead. I thought Empire would be the same quality writing but unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations. All I can say is "lame". I would not recommend this book.

  • The Colorado Kid: A Hard Case Crime Novel

No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world's great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself.

    Dammschippee says: "Gotcha!"
    "The Colorado Kid"
    Overall

Lame. The narrator was attempting an upper New England accent and it ends up sounding like a cross between Scottish Brogue and Mid-West twang. Stephen King has produced some amazing work but this one he cranked out while sitting on the john and it should have been flushed down with his other endeavor. Really unfortunate and a waste of time.

From the Booker Prize-winning author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans, comes an unforgettable edge-of-your-seat mystery that is at once heartbreakingly tender and morally courageous about what it means to be human.

Christopher says: "Moving, haunting, but slow developing"
    "Never let me go"
    Overall

I purchased this book after reading a favorable review in Time Magazine. The writing is excellent but the story is slow and sometimes filled with painfully tedious details. The story has an interesting twist and persepctive but seemed like a more appropriate topic for a short story.
