I always enjoy a well read book. The reader makes all the difference between enhancing the written word or just making it a chore to listen to the book. Mr. Doyle brings the characters to life with his performance.
I truly enjoyed becoming reaquainted with characters that appeared in various books throughout the series.
The one near the end with Septimus. I shall reveal no more!
I loved the short story. By the time I listened to this, I had already listened to The Ocean at the end of the Lane and focused only on Shoggoth's Old Peculiar. Mr. Gaiman has a great talent as a writer of the odd and quirky - possibly " a British thing?" He is also exceptionally talented as a performer of his pieces. His stories have a way of making you feel like you are there with the characters and that you can see, smell, taste, and feel what's happening .
This book challenged my vocabulary and made me stop to look up the word batrachian. Look it up yourself if you don't know what it means.
He can capture the flavor of each character with his vocal performance.
Shoggoth's Old Peculiar a Neil Gaiman Short Story ( featuring a preview of The Ocean at the End of the Lane)
If you have enjoyed the series, you should listen to it. Make your own decisions about the story without looking at others reviews before finishing the book.
After the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, I was hoping Ms. Roth would have an more optimistic ending to her series. Near-and-dear characters dying - no matter how nobly - is a bit gut-wrenching.
Tris was my favorite character.
I did enjoy the epilogue. As always, life goes on even when we lose those we love. We make adjustments, live with the memories and try to honor those we love with our lives.
