Who are you? What have we done to each other? What will we do? Just how well can you ever know the person you love? These are the questions that Nick Dunne must ask himself on the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, when his wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police immediately suspect Nick. Amy's friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn't true. A police examination of his computer shows strange searches. He says they aren't his. And then there are the persistent calls on his mobile phone.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was written from two perspectives and this is what allowed the complexity of the characters and their relationship to be revealed. It's a great plot, too.

What does Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They bring the characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I couldn't stop listening until I had finished it. I don't want to be a spoiler, but the ending really let me down ...

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

I figured out part-way that this novel is probably targeted to teenagers. If you're older, please don't let that put you off. It's full of beautiful insights, smart humour & philosophy, and wonderful characters. Be prepared to cry, and if this is not your world, to learn. I am so pleased to have stumbled across this book. I'm impressed by John Green's ability to channel a teenage girl with a terminal illness. Kate Rudd is an excellent narrator, and Hazel is someone I want to know.

Code Name Verity is a compelling, emotionally rich story with universal themes of friendship and loyalty, heroism and bravery. Two young women from totally different backgrounds are thrown together during World War II: one a working-class girl from Manchester, the other a Scottish aristocrat, one a pilot, the other a wireless operator. Yet whenever their paths cross, they complement each other perfectly and before long become devoted friends. But then a vital mission goes wrong....

    Story

I really enjoyed this tale of two women's deep friendship which was forged within, and profoundly affected by, wartime events. Not only is this a great story, it is full of enlightenment about WWII. The narration is superb, the story is gripping. I highly recommend it either in print form, or as an audiobook. It might have taking a bit of getting into, but came through in the end as an exciting, and very moving tale.

A human diplomat creates an interstellar incident when he kills an alien diplomat in a most unusual way. To avoid war, Earth's government must find an equally unusual object: A type of sheep ("The Android's Dream"), used in the alien race's coronation ceremony. To find the sheep, the government turns to Harry Creek, ex-cop, war hero and hacker extraordinaire.

    Story

The premise of this and others of John Scalzi's stories (that I have heard) is diplomacy among species in a future universe. He uses this with great creativity; I have never known of a diplomatic emergency being sparked by farting (but I could be wrong). Starting from this hilarious event, the novel moves it way through an action-packed story that alludes to a variety of real and literary figures, and culminates with a rather complex power play that shows Scalzi's amazing talent for story-telling. Wil Wheaton's narration is excellent, creating the right dead-pan delivery of the material.
