In 1349, one small town in Germany disappeared and was never resettled. Tom, a contemporary historian, and his theoretical-physicist girlfriend, Sharon, become interested. By all logic, the town should have survived, but it didn't. Why? What was special about Eifelheim that it utterly disappeared more than 600 years ago?

Award winning novels should be incredible. I am a great fan of the medieval time period and the sci-fi/fantasy genre. Did I miss something? The plot sounded interesting, but that was where the appeal ended.

I never fell in love with, much less cared about any of the characters in this story. Despite all their dialog, I never understood their motivation or true character. Some of their actions were so ridiculous, I laughed out loud! The descriptions of the 1340's scenic areas were lovely, but that just wasn't enough to carry the book.

I was hoping the ending would make tolerating the hours of dialog and detail worth while. As others have said, it was predictably anticlimactic. Sigh... maybe, its just me?

As Mumbai empties under the threat of imminent nuclear annihilation, statistician Sarita can only think of being reunited with her physicist husband. To find him, she must journey across the surreal landscape of a near-abandoned city, braving gangs of competing Hindu and Muslim hoodlums. Joining her is Jaz - a Muslim whose true religion has always been sex. Danger lurks around every corner, but so does the absurd: the patron goddess Devi Mahas even materialized on a beach to save her city....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Avoiding it entirely!

What was most disappointing about Manil Suri’s story?

No warning about the explicit sex in the "Audible Editors Reviews" (Really, Michael?!) and "Publisher's Summary" and 'What the Critics say." They said it was: "Fearlessly provocative, wickedly comedic, and propelled with rocket-fuel energy." I never heard anything comedic or caught any of the energy - provocative is all that came through! Disappointed in myself for not reading READER reviews. If I could I would return this and get my credit back! I would never have chosen to purchase this.Movies & TV shows have ratings - Why not books?

Have you listened to any of Vikas Adam and Priya Ayyar ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Never heard them before. They are great narrators. Performance was delightful. Too bad the story was about things I didn't want to hear!

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I gave up on it when I realized where it was going (wedding night, etc. - Karun is probably gay) and then looked up reviews and plot spoilers, which confirmed my suspicions.

    Any additional comments?

I wish I had read readers reviews. I wish I could return this!

When the skeleton of a young girl, not yet a teenager, is discovered in Acadia, Canada, Tempe Brennan is reminded of Evangelina, her best friend in her preteen years, who was mysteriously taken away when she was 12. Evangelina was from strange and faraway Acadia. She was named after Evangeline in the Longfellow poem, and loved poetry. Tempe found her exotic and glamorous, and then suddenly she was gone, and Tempe was told not to try to find her, that she was "dangerous".

This is the first Reichs novel I've read/listened to. I thought it was well paced, a good story, had nice twists and interesting characters. While it wasn't deep, it was entertaining.

This story drew me in even though I expected not to like it. If you dislike narrators with accents, you will not appreciate this narrators voice. Each simple plot twist leading to an amazing quiz show answer had a story. I felt myself learning some Indian culture.
