Aislinn Andrews met Lucas Greywolf under unusual circumstances – she caught the escaped convict raiding her refrigerator. But was he a troublemaker who aroused dissidence among Arizona’s Native Americans…or a hero who’d gone to prison for a crime he hadn’t committed? It didn’t really matter now, since Lucas Greywolf had taken her hostage. He was going home to the reservation of his birth, honor bound to pay last respects to his dying grandfather. And Aislinn was his ticket home.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed the story and the reader was very good, but it was a little simplistic. The male character is a half-breed American Indian and the female is white. She is a little too wonderful and tolerant and he is a bit of a jerk.

Would you be willing to try another book from Sandra Brown? Why or why not?

Of course, I love Sandra Brown's books, especially her suspense novels.

Which character – as performed by Renee Raudman – was your favorite?

    The female lead.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. It is more of a Lifetime movie.

    Any additional comments?

    No.

I love Lisa Kleypas. She is probably one of my favorite romance writers. This story is one of her best. It is an unconventional love story and one that crosses racial/cultural lines (especially in that time and place). Kev is big, rough half gypsy with a past that would have crippled a weaker man. Win is a lovely, but fragile girl who is part of a very unconventional family. They fall in love a first sight during their teens when Kev is rescued and adopted into Win's family. They are obviously soul mates destined to be together, regardless of all the travails and roadblocks thrown their way.

I have read all the author's books on audio (except those set in the middle ages as I don't like that period). I've loved all of them, but this one. They've all followed a scenario of two slightly damaged people who manage to overcome the odds, fall in love, and have a future together. This couple seemed to follow that mode at first, then it veered off into airy fairy land with telepathy and visitations of odd other worldly creatures. Several times, I asked myself "where is she going with this?". Even the plotting seemed uneven and uncertain. I still love the narrator, but the story lacked Kinsale's usual tight control of her plot and characters.

Reckless desire sends Charlotte Daicheston into the garden with a dashing masked stranger. Several years later, after Charlotte has made her dazzling debut in London society, they meet again. But the rogue is no footman. He's rich, titled, and he doesn't remember Charlotte. Worse, he's the subject of some scandalous gossip.

This was a different take on the standard historical romance. With a "not so pure" heroine and quite flawed hero, it takes the relationship between these two characters to a new level. She is a rather unconventional and talented artist who doesn't quite fit into the societal norms. But, her beauty attracts the attention of quite a few men. He is the eldest of identical twins with a checkered past. They met, fell instantly in love at a masquerade ball and many years past before they met again. The story proceeds from there and it gets very complicated. The narrator is one of my favorites and I enjoyed both the story and her telling of it.

Nicky isn't the nicest guy in the world. He has lots of baggage and suffers from PTSD from horrific torture he went through at the hands of his king's interrogator. He carries the scars from the torture and death of his brother as well as his own. He meets the tall, lovely red-headed Emma and is immediately smitten. Her unconventional lifestyle and love of animals is attractive to him for some reason. He must have her and pulls out all the stops to do so even against the advice of her father and step-mom. Their marriage is rocky and he even cheats on her because he is afraid of giving his heart to her completely. Just before she has decided to leave him he finds a picture that propels him back 300 years to a love affair between him in a past life and a woman who looked just like Emma. He comes to his senses and realizes they are soul mates and meant to spend their lives together and they get a fresh start to begin their lives together without the baggage they had before.

Kind of a silly premise but I liked it. At least it had a plot, which was better than some of the others I read lately that had little or no plot at all.

And I love Susan Duerden as a narrator.

Nobody knows who Miss Rose Sweetly is, and she prefers it that way. She’s a shy, mathematically-minded shopkeeper’s daughter who dreams of the stars. Women like her only ever come to attention through scandal. She’ll take obscurity, thank you very much. All of England knows who Stephen Shaughnessy is. He’s an infamous advice columnist and a known rake.

Not much of a plot, but a sweet story of two idealistic young people from different worlds who find common ground in their love for each other. Although the reality of an interracial romance in the place and time period of the book would be a far more difficult undertaking than it portrays, the fantasy of such a possibility is nice to contemplate.

I normally love this author, but this is probably the least entertaining of those I've read. Although the main characters' relationship is quite cute as are their conversations, it was too much talk and very little action. The plot was kind of stupid and it is hard to believe that a woman could have been that naïvely assertive in the middle/dark ages with such easy acceptance from men (regardless of how beautiful she was).

As an extremely wealthy laird, Gowan Stoughton, Duke of Kinross, can have any of the maidens at the ball he attends. The only problem is they are all English and Gowan is not so certain they are suitable. He is accustomed to the hard-working lasses from his Highlands, not these dainty noblewomen who spend their days drinking tea or some other such nonsense. But then he makes the acquaintance of Lady Edith Gilchrist. Utterly bewitched by the emerald-eyed beauty with lush golden locks, he knows he must have her.

This is the story of two young virgins (he is 22 and she is 19) who marry and start their wedded life. Neither of them know anything about love or sex. They find the love part easy as they were very attracted to each other. He fell in love at first sight and she soon after. He loved the sex part, she hated it (mostly because he was clueless and she became fearful - because he was clueless). At this point, anyone reading this can draw their own conclusions. This is basically the plot of the story. They are also total opposites. He is smart, pragmatic, and all business. She is an ethereal musician who lives in her own world. There is also a secondary story about her father and stepmother who are terrible role models. Although the story was rather weak on plot, the dialogue was very good. Eloisa James has a knack for communicating the emotions of her characters and this book was no different. Was it one of her best? No, but I enjoyed it and the two young newlyweds were very cute together.

Nothing is fair in love or war, especially when they are one and the same. When the handsome Lord Matthew Blackwood approached her, Serena Fitzwater immediately knew they were meant to be together. Bold and brash, the qualities that made Matthew an excellent soldier made him her soul mate as well. A storybook romance and marriage followed, only to be interrupted by the call for Matthew to return to the frontlines. When Matthew returns months later, he’s no longer the knight in shining armor of Mary’s fairy-tale dreams.

I don't know why this got so many stars. It was devoid of emotional involvement by any characters. Limited romance and absolutely no sex (I like a little sex in my "romance" novels), but there was a lot of talking about very little. I stopped listening halfway through and tried to return it, but was not able to. Although the narrator is one of my favorites, I'll give this author a pass on reading any more of her books.
