The visionary creator of the Academy Award-winning Pan's Labyrinth and a Hammett Award-winning author bring their imaginations to this bold, epic novel about a horrifying battle between man and vampire that threatens all humanity. It is the first installment in a thrilling trilogy and an extraordinary international publishing event.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Strain to be better than the print version?

Yes, you've heard this story before (a bit exactly as before...) but this version works! It is very believable, logical and freaky....I downloaded the rest of the trilogy before I even finished - just in case the world ended and I lost the internet before I had a chance to head the end!

I'm a fan of the zombie genre, as long as it's almost believable. This does the dead justice. The main character is believable so much that you buy into the situation without hesitation. Read the series, waiting for more.

New York City in 1978 is a dirty, dangerous place to live - and die. Joey Peacock knows this as well as anybody - he has spent the last forty years as an adolescent vampire, perfecting the routine he now enjoys: womanizing in punk clubs and discotheques, feeding by night, and sleeping by day with others of his kind in the macabre labyrinth under the city's sidewalks.

He's a NY Cab driver who happens to need to feed on you, but still expects a tip. It's the first audio book I've rewound often, just to re-hear that cynical line. Hysterical. As a native New Yorker, I think I've met these characters. I wish it were a series. Not an eat-your-nails horror story... But very entertaining.

I would've liked a bit more explanation of what happened, before the characters started down the super-power route.... I suppose that is why it's a whole series. Good storyline, just needs to make sense now.

It’s been two years since the vampiric virus was unleashed in The Strain and the entire world now lies on the brink of annihilation. There has been a mass extermination of humans orchestrated by the Master - an ancient vampire possessed of unparalleled powers. The future of humankind lies in the hands of a ragtag band of freedom fighters - Dr. Eph Goodweather, Dr. Nora Martinez, Vasiliy Fet, and Mr. Quinlan, the half-breed offspring of the Master who is bent on revenge. It’s their job to overturn this devastating new world order.

Bought the series before I finished the first book - it was that good. I flew through them! Writing was fast paced, no blah-blah-blah moments at all!! I'm not usually a fan of "series" books, but this one made me understand how one can get hooked. Characters are believable, monsters are freaky and villans are lovable. Just perfect.

A storm struck on the night Laura Shane was born, and there was a strangeness about the weather that people would remember for years. But even more mysterious was the blond-haired stranger who appeared out of nowhere - the man who saved Laura from a fatal delivery. Years later - after another bolt of lightning - the stranger returned.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but pleasantly surprised. Not really a horror, more sci-fi – but a good read. Some characters were quite amusing, others were uneventful – but that’s how it’s supposed to be, I guess.

Sci-Fi fans would like this more that horror fans…not scary or nail-biting, but an interesting story.
