Terry Tempest Williams's mother told her: "I am leaving you all my journals, but you must promise me you won't look at them until after I'm gone." Fans of Williams's iconic and unconventional memoir, Refuge, well remember that mother. She was a member of a large Mormon clan in northern Utah who developed cancer as a result of the nuclear testing in nearby Nevada. It was a shock to Williams that her mother had kept journals. But not as much of a shock as what she found when the time came to read them.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I placed so many bookmarks throughout it is impossible to pick a favorite!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to sit and listen to the whole thing at once but this isn't a book to read while performing everyday activities. It requires thoughtful insight and reflection. I have a better understanding of self and women around me after reading this. Thank you Terry Tempest Williams!

Buddhism is all about training the mind, and boot camp is an ideal training method for this generation's short attention span. The chapters in this audiobook can be listened in any order, and are simple and easy to understand. Each story, inspirational quote, and teaching offers mindfulness-enhancing techniques that anyone can relate to. You don't need to be a Buddhist to find the Buddha's teachings motivational. As the Dalai Lama says, "Don't try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are."

Where does Buddhist Boot Camp rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was not my favorite book of all time but good for beginners. First step book in mindfulness and meditation. Learn Buddhist basics!

Would you be willing to try another book from Timber Hawkeye? Why or why not?

Maybe. It would need to be a little deeper.

What does Timber Hawkeye bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His insight gave me another way of looking at myself and situations. Not life altering but enlightening.

In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a black African father and a white American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father, a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man, has been killed in a car accident.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    I already have!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obama's mother was my favorite character. She was a strong culturally aware woman who could adapt to anything. The pure nature of her love and wisdom was passed to her son with eloquence.

Have you listened to any of Barack Obama’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I loved this book, more so than the Audacity of Hope. You get to see where it all began.
