Yes because Davina Porter's voice has range and i thought she added to the comedy and hijinks of the poor, fallen aristocratic 6. This was a fun, very likable story!
I liked all the characters but Sir Philip was my favorite because he was the most audacious and most unscrupulous of the 6. He made me laugh. Next in line is Lady Fortescue because she is trying to keep it together even if that means a little thievery. Plus I appreciated her strong will and temperament. She is the antithesis of the reigning aristocracy - she is practical and level headed.
I purchased this book on sale a while back and I'm so glad I did. I was introduced to this clever little series and I hope more sales come along because I'd love to listen to more!
This was such a sweet read, and I loved it. Don and Rosie from the get go are interesting , funny and lovable. Don, a successful geneticist who falls somewhere on the Aspergers continuum is searching for the perfect partner so he begins the wife project - a questionnaire designed to eliminate unsuitable matches. Is it successful? Of course not. And here we meet Rosie - the wildcard. She never completes the questionnaire and finds it insulting. In fact she only meets him because a fellow colleague recommends Don to assist her in determining her real father. She smokes, she drinks, she has wild red hair, works at a bar, is mathematically illiterate and Don in all his awkward weirdness becomes the man for her and she for him. Don is so sweet and falls hard - this is a quirky, funny love story and I am sad it ended!
No and he was great. His voice added to the story- he was Don.
Yes! I smiled and laughed and lost sleep!
Totally worth the credit.
hot, sweaty, sex
Oh yea - serioulsy, If you are ok with explicit, exhibitionist sex scenes then here you have it my friends. Seriously, this book made FSOG look like a teaser. The story is interesting enough and the hook up scenes are really all that!
I really liked Brian - the lovelorn lead guitarist who always falls in love with the wrong kind of girl. He was sweet and let Myrna have her way and gave her the freedom both sexually and emotionally to do whatever, and I mean, whatever she wanted.
No, I needed to breath between chapters. ha!
Totally worth the credit! It's a hot read.
Yes because Mary Beth Hurt was amazing - she brought the characters in this book to life, especially Hildy's character.
Hildy's character was written so perfectly. She is lovely and delusional, dynamic and flawed; and still so beautiful all the while living in total denial. It was sort of spell binding hearing Hildy go through this process of self discovery - really discovering that she is in fact a total alcoholic. I was GLUED to this story, and Hildy is just one of the many lovely characters in this audio. The book is rich!
Mary Beth Hurt brought ALL that is Hildy Good to life in her performance. Hildy is a full character and the narrator captured her demons and spirit and made her relateable. I laughed so much and also held my breath a few times. It was a brilliant performance.
Wendover spelled out in bottles of red wine.
I think Meryl Streep or Angelica Houston would be PERFECT as Hildy and Kate Winslet would make a good Rebecca because she is a bewitching character. Kate Winslet looks so proper and perfect, (just like Rebecca) but I think she could bring on the crazy in a heart beat (just like Rebecca). Count me in. When's the movie?
The town itself is its own character allowing folks to be quirky and loving, independent and woven. There is so much to like about The Good House so go ahead and download it. It's worth the credit!
Yes, it's a sexy, light read and very funny. i rate this more as 3.5 and have to say that I enjoyed this SO much more than Wallbanger. I could barely get through that book. I looked forward to hearing more of The unidentified Red Head because it was funny and the characters were at surface, at least interesting. This audio doesn't dive deeper than surface, which is ok. It is fun, light, sexy with cute 1st dates that involve seagull poop. My one big beef is that Grace sounds like an east coaster when I think she is supposed to be from the land of cornfields and cherry pie, ie, the midwest. Then you have Jack who is supposed to be British and he sounds just like Grace. I wish they would have at least tried to work the accents. Tried would have been nice!
No, you couldn't tell Jack from Grace. Keili Lefkovitz is not bad actually, she brings a lot of spunk and spirit to her readings. I just don't think her voice was right for this audio.
A little less oral sex and a little more romantic development. And this is coming from a girl that likes, really likes her sexy scenes. It just seemed slightly ridiculous that they were waiting to consummate their relationship after they had literally done everything else, and licked each other in every imaginable place. It just seemed a little too far fetched. It took four play to a new level of ridiculousness!
I really did enjoy this audio despite the narration and despite the endless oral sex scenes. I think some of my friends would slap me for even writing such a thing - as if there is too much. But truly, at times, it was a big old "COME ON....let's move on to the story now."
I was really happy to see that audible recently released more of her books. I think this is so far my favorite Rachel Gibson audio. The entire story, from start to finish was interesting, funny and entertaining. The hook up scenes were pretty hot and sprinkled throughout the entire story! This is definitely credit worthy and worth the hours of lost sleep.
The entire story, from start to finish - it was wonderful and addicting. I lost sleep because I wanted to follow the adventure of Nicola and Rob through Scottland, Belgium and Russia. The Firebird is beautifully written and Susanna Kearsley is a gifted writer who is able to transport you to another time and place. This book has mystery, intrigue, romance and strong, well developed characters. I really LOVED this book and I was so sad when it came to an end. It's just one of those books....
I kinda had a thing for Rob. I loved that he knew who he was, accepted his gift and all along had been pining away for Nicola. It was all super romantic and sweet. And in the end, he was able to help Nicola face and eventually accept her amazing gift.
She was great - her narration was spot on.
I've now downloaded and listened to all of Susanna Kearsley's books and I need more. Audible, please release more. please!
Perhaps, because I really enjoyed a devil wears Prada. Unfortunately this audio is nothing like its prequel. It is sad follow-up and Andrea is so annoying. All she does is complain and whine about anything and everything.
She is the only redeeming part of this audio.
The first hour was good and then it derailed from there. The next three hours are about how she didn't quite trust her boyfriend but still marries him. Meanwhile there is no back story about their history. She complains so much about Max which would have been fine within context and had it been central to the plot of the story. the main problem is that throughout most of the book she questions if he is the one; if he is honest; her soul mate? And at the same time she also declares how perfect he is at least 20 times. Make up your mind! It was all very juvenile.
Be warned, this is a bad story! I won't even bother going into the various story lines that are neither developed or interesting. It is really the complete opposite of a devil wears Prada. Not an enjoyable listen, in fact I couldn't finish it.
reincarnated forever lovers
I liked this story through and through. It was interesting and captivating. The reincarnation angle really works and provides context to their "instant" connection.
I didn't especially care for the performance - she was a bit dry and her voice didn't add much to the story. Her voice was mono toned and there just wasn't a lot of substance there.
I really enjoyed the book and am glad I downloaded it. While I didn't lose sleep over this one, it held my attention. I especially liked when the characters were hypnotized and told their past stories.
Ok my last comment here is change the cover picture. The girl on the cover is just that - a girl. She looks 15 and the character in the book is a professional woman, she's in her 20's. I thought this was a YA book based on the cover.
I expected more given the reviews. It was an OK listen. While yes there were some very funny moments, most of the book was boring. I was tired of hearing about her lack of "O" yes we got it, we got the memo several times. We get it, you can't have an organism. By the end I didn't care about either character. The last hour was literally a headache of continuous oh my god, I'm so totally awesome, i'm having a trillion back-to-back orgasms.
The narrator did not add to this story.
No major reactions - I just didn't like it as much as others.
Among those books that fall under contemporary romance this listen is at the top. I totally got sucked into this book and this story of the hot NFL player Ryan and equally hot, loud mouthed, nerdy girl Rachel. I liked both characters and found the development of "them" to be funny, interesting and hot. Their sexual build up was slow and steady and when they finally hook up, I was relieved. This is up there with Rachel Gibson. This was a totally absorbing read and I'm so glad I downloaded this!
When the sexy womanizing NFL star starts to fall for Rachel. I think he falls for her first but is so intimidated by this young, sassy, independent girl . Unlike so many adoring fans, she is not impressed by his NFL status and she calls him on his crap and tells him like it is. And while Rachel was called bitchy a couple of times in this audio, I have to say - her character was refreshing and real. While there is much bravado behind her banter - that is what I liked most - she is young and trying to make it on her own. She is proud, intelligent, stubborn and scared. She felt very real.
No but I really liked her. She gave a lot to this recording. I think she was great as Ryan and Rachel. I would gladly listen to her again.
Yes and I pretty much did! I lost sleep but it was worth it. I hope this author writes more books. I am a fan!
Absolutely worth the download!
