"Okay, not great"
I much prefer Robin Cook's early books. Over the last several years his books are just okay. It is a decent story line, but it is bogged down by a lot of slow reading. Too much explanation on HVAC systems, engineering of a hospital, and boring conversation. In addition, the mafia guys were more comedic than serious.
That said, it was not bad and I did keep listening until the book was finished instead of getting a new book. There are a lot of better books out there, but also a lot worse too.
"Good book"
I really enjoyed this book. I had to read the beginning a few times, because I couldn't really focus, but once I settled down, I enjoyed the book. Definitely a good vs evil story. Jews vs Germans
"Pretty good"
Definitely a long book; took me a bit to really get into it. But once I did, I enjoyed it, although you really need to stretch the imagination when reading this.
"Good, but don't like the narrator"
This a a pretty good book, not excellent, but I think my opinion for the book is a bit tainted by the narrator. His voices for Lauren and her son Gabe are terrible. I don't like listening to him and I think it has affected my enjoyment of this book.
"You can skip this Johansen book"
I also listened to this book with it's audio issues, (they have since fixed the problem) but audio issues or not, this is not a very good book at all. In addition, I have never had a problem with any of the narrators, but this narrator was pretty bad too. The combo of audio issues, terrible narrator and boring book make this a definite skip if you are considering this book. Try another one of her earlier works. I feel bad about being so harsh, but it is just not worth the credit or money. Get it from the public library if you must.
"BORING!"
I am 5 1/2 hours into this book and it is so boring I can't stand it. I chose it based on all of the great reviews, but I am not seeing it. In the 5 hours I have listened to it, there has been NO action. There has been very minor background info on an old rape case and then one of the accused rapists' body was found dead. The circumstance of this death is given only remotely. It is called in to the sheriff's office, so the reader is not even involved directly with it. So far besides this info, all that I am hearing about is the town sheriff and his love life or lack thereof and the construction improvements on his house. Nothing is happening, I am so bored. The story takes place in Wyoming where things may move a bit slow, but this is ridiculous. I keep trying to give it time to improve, but I am 1 hour from finishing the first half and nothing is happening.
"Loved this book"
Perfect summer read. Gross has co-written with James Patterson previously, but this book is better than those books. I really enjoyed listening to it. It is very entertaining and a perfect beach read or as in my case perfect to make my swimming laps pass by quickly. I look forward to more solo books from him.
"just okay"
This book is just okay. It tended to move a little slowly. It is a lot of kitchen talk about the behind the scenes workings of a restaurant which is is interesting for a few hours, but not for 12 hours. It's is probably great for those who are really interested in the restaurant business or are really into food.
"horrible"
I am almost 2 hours into this book and it is sooo slow and boring. I usually like Michael Connelly, but this one goes nowhere for the first 2 hours, there is no action, just a lot of slow talking. I will continue to listen, I hope that it picks up, but I am tempted to give up. In all fairness, I am only 2 hours into a 10 hour book, so it may pick up, but if you like your books to get right into the action, it does not happen here.
"good book"
I enjoyed the book, if you are looking for a book to help make your run or swim go by quickly this is a good choice. I have read, not listened, to other Tess Gerritsen books and they too are enjoyable, quick reads.
