Kyle Riggs is snatched by an alien spacecraft sometime after midnight. The ship is testing everyone it catches and murdering the weak. The good news is that Kyle keeps passing tests and staying alive. The bad news is the aliens who sent this ship are the nicest ones out there.

The unfolding of characters, and the surprises you discover

What did you like best about this story?

It had a good character development, believable and understandable character reactions and choices.

What does Mark Boyett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Just a great presentation

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book is a little more emotional then the others, you feel sad & angry with the characters.

    Any additional comments?

This book is more a development and intro to the whole series. Its wonderful on its own, but its Just the beginning. One of my favorite series.

Star Force is called to arms again! Outcast is a new beginning, the first book in a new spin-off series. Many peaceful years have passed since the Macro Wars ended. Most of those who fought against the heartless machines have aged - but not the ingenious artificial construct known as Marvin. His insatiable curiosity is as strong as ever, and he’s brought home fresh perils to humanity’s doorstep.

Still chock full of adventure and twists. I'm in Hensen's side, I want to be there when Cody utterly fails, and his gamble back-fires. There is little character development, and Cody is a carbon copy of his predecessor, but without the grit and realism of an actual character. Cody comes off as a comic-book character. This book does a great job of putting it in the next generations perspective. Past books are now recorded history, complete with distortion and denials that time brings to memory. Its worth the listen, fun & imaginative.

The year is 2108, and the North American Commonwealth is bursting at the seams. For welfare rats like Andrew Grayson, there are only two ways out of the crime-ridden and filthy welfare tenements, where you’re restricted to 2,000 calories of badly flavored soy every day. You can hope to win the lottery and draw a ticket on a colony ship settling off-world, or you can join the service. With the colony lottery a pipe dream, Andrew chooses to enlist in the armed forces for a shot at real food, a retirement bonus, and maybe a ticket off Earth.

Good writing, not great, but entertaining. Its not Overly original or imaginative, but it has a few twists that leaving you asking "What happens Next?" The dialogue is typical military sci-fi, but the story-line has good texture with its surprises, and a good pace.

In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

A unique spin to classic Military Sci-Fi. Its a bit abrupt, doesn't have a lot of texture I enjoyed from B.V.Larson's other work, but the action & adventure takes you for a ride.

Admit it. You want to BE William Shatner. This collection of rules, illustrated with stories from Bill’s illustrious life and career, will show you how Bill became WILLIAM SHATNER, larger than life and bigger than any role he ever played. Shatner Rules is your guide to becoming William Shatner. Or, more accurately, beautifully Shatneresque.

The alien artifact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has appeared in Uranus's orbit, where it has built a massive gate that leads to a starless dark. Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artifact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core. As the emissaries of the human race try to find whether the gate is an opportunity or a threat, the greatest danger is the one they brought with them.

Kyle Riggs is in for a rough ride. In Annihilation, the seventh book of the Star Force Series, nothing goes as planned. The three fledgling human colonies in the Eden System are beginning to take hold, but the forces threatening to root them out are many. The Crustaceans are calling for help, despite the fact they are the sworn enemies of Star Force. Are they potential allies, or vicious tricksters? And why are the oceans of their world heating up?

This Series is Amazing! I am on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Actual character development with texture and faults, political intrigue that makes a whole lotta since, aliens that only make sinse in relation to themselves.

    Story

Neither the writing nor performance has improved, overly cardboard characters, all female voices sound the same, the same tropes. I still give it 3 stars, its still good, but a bit of a let down from the stronger books earlier in the series. This one drops a lot of descriptions, new characters are just window dressing, and its shorter!
Less quantity, less quality, diminishing return on the series.

I was left with only fuzzy outline of what things look, or smell like, referring to what I conjured in earlier books.

History for busy people. The Cold War: History in an Hour gives a brilliant overview of the unusual and non-violent war between East and West that lasted nearly fifty years. From the end of World War Two to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 the world lived within the shadow of the Cold War. Russia and America eyed each other with suspicion and hostility.
