In an effort to improve relations with the Earth, the Colonial Union has invited a contingent of diplomats from that planet to observe Ambassador Abumwe negotiate a trade deal with an alien species. Then something very bad happens to one of the Earthings, and with that, the relationship between humanity’s two factions is on the cusp of disruption once more. It’s a race to find out what really happened, and who is to blame. "The Observers" is a tale from John Scalzi's The Human Division, a series of self-contained but interrelated short stories set in the Old Man's War universe.

I'm not suire why this book is hard to listen to because the story is OK and the Narrator has a good voice, but I just could not keep listing to it. When I checked other listeners had the same hard time. Book 2 and 3 had better reviews.

Humanity is losing the war. The once-mighty space navies have been crippled, officers and crew have been stretched to the limit and Earth herself has come under heavy attack. The end cannot be long delayed. For Admiral Smith and the crew of HMS Ark Royal, the stakes have never been so high. The one hope is to make contact with alien factions that might oppose the war.

Book 3 The Trafalgar Gambit is by far much better then the first 2 books. That said it still has too much of who's sleeping with who in it. Way too Much. But it does have some very good action battles in it. It is well written and well narrated. The wole trilogy could have been so much better if it didn't spend some much time on whot everyone is sleeping with and other draw out things that no one cares about.

This book is a bit better then the first book. It still is long winded, but the battles are better. Still to much personal stuff you don't care about. Who is sleeping with who. The story seems to be better and is leading up to something big I hope, In the 3rd book. Still the listeners who gave these books 5 stars should listen to : Star Force by B V Larson or The Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell if you want 5 star action!!!

Seventy years ago, the interstellar supercarrier Ark Royal was the pride of the Royal Navy. But now, her weapons are outdated and her solid-state armour nothing more than a burden on her colossal hull. She floats in permanent orbit near Earth, a dumping ground for the officers and crew the Royal Navy wishes to keep out of the public eye. But when a deadly alien threat appears, the modern starships built by humanity are no match for the powerful alien weapons.

    Story

Ark Royal is about a 70 year old star ship, that is almost scrapped. The story is good but it takes forever for anything to happen. What I mean is it took about 4 hours for them to get Ark Royal ready for the first minor battle. Then back home to earth for a refit. More hours go by for the next battle. It would have been so much better if they shortened the get ready part and went to battle the aliens.
