This story was as great as all the previous ones, with one exception. The ending. I felt a little cheated. I think the story should have continued for one more chapter. But it does leave me breathlessly waiting for the next book, as ususal. Katherine Kellgren was awesome, as I have come to expect.

I loved the 1st book and I was worried that the 2nd book would not be as good, but I think it was even better! I loved the unexpected twists and turns. I always enjoy seeing how David gets out of the impossible situations that he finds himself in and I love that his faith and determination never waiver. The narrator is great and I am so glad it is the same narrator as in the previous book. He gets the emotions down so well and the characterization of the different personalities. Can't wait for the next book!

An author whose previous, wildly successful novels have earned him a reputation as fantasy's master of magic, Brandon Sanderson continues to dazzle audiences with this tale of princesses and gods. In this extraordinary world, those who attain glory return as gods. And those who can master the essence known as breath can perform the most wondrous miracles - or unleash the most devastating havoc.

I really loved this book. Lots of action, enough romance, mystery, twists, heroes, heroines, magic. This book has it all. The setting of the book was foreign to me because I had never read any of Brandon Sanderson's other books, so it took me a while to comprehend the world, but that was part of the entertainment. I really liked the way Brandon personalized the main characters of the book. By the last 4 hours of the book, I just couldn't stop listening.

The narrator was very good at keeping all the voices distinct and conveying emotion. I wouldn't say it was the best narration I have ever heard, but I would rate it pretty high.

I recommend this book and I wish there was a sequel. I would definitely read it if there was one. Is there any chance Brandon? I am planning on starting on one of Brandon's other books very soon.

I was entertained by the story and did finally get emotionally caught up in Sonea's welfare. But it took a long time before the story really exposed any emotion from Sonea for me to connect with. And many parts of the story seemed to go on forever, instead of moving to the event that the story was leading up to.
The narrator did an excellent job. I could easily differentiate between characters, and enjoyed the smooth, entertaining narration. I probably will eventually invest in the sequel.

    Story

The concept of the story seemed intriguing, and some parts of the story were entertaining, but the majority of the story was boring. I felt like I was back in school and learning all kinds of boring historical facts. The interesting parts were the character relationships. The narrator did not do a great job of differentiating characters. There were many times that I could not tell the voice of one character from another. But the narrator did have a pleasant, entertaining narrative. I won't be listening to the sequels.

This story kept me entertained from beginning to end! I thought the narrator did a great job keeping the characters distinct and conveying all the appropriate emotion with his voice. I don't normally like stories that jump back and forth in time, but I really enjoyed the intricate weaving of time that was done with this story. I highly recommend it. Very satisfying story, that leaves you wanting to hear more. Thankfully there is more to come!

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

    Story

This is my all time favorite audible series. I LOVE the story and there is no better narrator than Davina Porter. I love the way Diana Gabaldon intertwines real historical events and characters into this series. I have listened to all of the books in this series and I am waiting anxiously for the next installment. I originally bought this first book because it had high ratings and it was so long. I felt like I was getting alot for my money. I was not disappointed.

The only negative I can say is that (for me) all other audio books that I have listened to since these have failed to stand up to the excellence of this story, this narrator and the great length of each book in this series. That and the fact that waiting for the next book in the series is agony. But, if you started with the first book today, the ninth book may be out by the time you finish the eighth book.

I have just finished listening to the final book in this series and I can happily say I am very happy with the entire series. This first book is a bit slow to get into because the world of Alera is new and different and it takes time to comprehend all that is being described. Overall I loved this series. There is so much to this series. Lots of action, great battles, many different characters (that you will grow to love), impossible odds and satisfying conclusions at the end of each book. I have listened to all of the Game Of Thrones books (that exist to date) and enjoyed that series, but I enjoyed this one more, especially since all the books in the series have been completed.

The narrator does a great job with this series and remains the same narrator throughout. It did seem odd to me at first that a female narrator would be used for a story where the main character is male, but it works because the main character starts out so young, and by the end of the series I had become so used to the voice, it just felt natural.

Treat yourself and start listening to Tavi's story today.
