  • Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde

With dramatic flair, Jeff Guinn delivers the definitive portrait of Bonnie and Clyde. These media-savvy outlaws appealed to America's Depression-era hunger for swashbuckling characters. Glowing radio and newspaper reports transformed these "public enemies" into celebrities - much like the cinema gangsters of the time.

    "Good Story, Weird Narration"
    Overall

The story was absolutely gripping. It is a well written factual telling of the story, without being overwrought or apologizing for the actions of the Barrows. However, the narrator is distracting. He has some kind of strange lisp or slur. "Clyde" is pronounced "Dide" consistently, and there are other oddities. If you can get past the delivery, this book is great.

In one evening, Terry Caffey lost everything. His wife, Penny, and his sons, Matthew and Tyler, were brutally murdered; his home was burned to the ground, and his 16-year-old daughter, Erin, was in jail, charged with thiree counts of capital murder.

    "Very Preachy"
    Overall

I expected to get a true crime book, but instead I got an evangelical with a bible quote at the start of every chapter. As the book progresses, we learn more and more about the author's christianity and not much about the crime, trial, motives, etc. Good if you want a sermon; not so great for a true crime accounting.

In December 2008, amidst a world gripped by financial crisis, Bernard Madoff, a respected fund manager, and former chairman of NASDAQ, was arrested by the FBI for reportedly bilking thousands of trusting investors out of $50 billion. In the first comprehensive account of this financial mastermind's epic Ponzi scheme,Catastrophe exposes the real story behind Madoff's upstanding fa├žade-his family's involvement, and his unlikely rise and incredible crash.

Michael says: "Like Madoff book is a rip off"
    "Nothing New Here"
    Overall

All this book does is recycle news reports and comment postings from blogs. There are no interviews with victims or family members, deep background, history (how could this have been foreseen), etc. It's just a quickie grab for some of the Madoff money before the phenom is over. Highly disappointing.
