You've likely heard of the Westboro Baptist Church. Perhaps you've seen their pickets on the news, the members holding signs with messages that are too offensive to copy here, protesting at events such as the funerals of soldiers, the 9-year old victim of the recent Tucson shooting, and Elizabeth Edwards, all in front of their grieving families. Since no organized religion will claim affiliation with the WBC, it's perhaps more accurate to think of them as a cult. Lauren Drain was thrust into that cult at the age of 15, and then spat back out again seven years later.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Very informative read. Being from Kansas, I had grown up with the Westboro Church always causing commotion. As a Christian, you feel sorry for what the members are taught to believe. Well worth the read (or listen).

    Any additional comments?

If you ever wondered why Westboro believes what it does, this book will make it clear.

James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

Would you consider the audio edition of Beyond Belief to be better than the print version?

Loved the audio version, easy listening and very informative. Gives a good insight to a Cult.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Really opened my eyes to the world of Scientology. NOT something I would EVER want to be a part of.

    Highly recommended.

The Bondurant Boys were a notorious gang of roughnecks and moonshiners who ran liquor through Franklin County during Prohibition and after. The brothers played a central role in a major conspiracy trial and its violent end. In 1935, Sherwood Anderson, working on a magazine story, finds himself driving along the dusty red roads trying to find the brothers and break the silence that shrouds Franklin County.

What would have made The Wettest County in the World, or Lawless better?

Hard to follow along at times as the author "jumped around" in time from Chapter to Chapter. Listening on the road was distracting trying to keep a timeline of the story.

Has The Wettest County in the World, or Lawless turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no
