I would have to say if I had to rank "Plain Perfect" among all of the audiobooks that I have listened to I would rank not only the book but the "series" among the "TOP 5". I found the series on Audiobook Library Loan & enjoyed the first book so much I researched the author & all of her books & went to Audible & purchased the next book in the line up "Plain Pursuit". When I completed the second book I immediately went to the third & so on. I not only researched the author but read all of the reviews to ascertain if the book or books will be something that I am interested in reading or listening to. Beth Wiseman is creative, talented and weaves believable events among the trials & tribulations of English life & Amish Life. You will walk in their shoes along the pathway of searching for an enriched life whether they choose the English life or the Amish life. I was curious about the philosophy of the Amish life & their day to day activites which lead me through the series of books. I have listened/read the series twice & have enjoyed each and every book.
In answering the question,"What did you like best about this story?" I would have to say the "Simple Abundance" of daily Amish life & the search for GOD's LOVE & GIFTS in each & every moment of the day. I was curious about the Amish culture & interested in how Lillian would escape her unfilling life & find refuge in her Amish grand parents farm. Beth did an excellent job in creating a Amish lifestyle that causes an Englisher such as myself to examine my own dialy life & work to "simplify" everything & search for more of GOD"s abundant gifts. The book was relaxing & rewarding & I would recommend it to everyone I know.
I can honestly say that the gathering for the "barn raising" literally caused goose bumps on my arms & I felt so inspired with that segment of the story. All in all the entire books was a "work of art" ! Thank you Beth Wiseman. May GOD continue to bless & enrich your writing skills for us.
If you could rename "Plain Perfect" what would you name it? That is an interesting question for a reader. I wouldn't rename it.
Yes, I do have an additional comment & request. Please reduce the number of questions that you ask a reviewer to answer. Most likely you would receive a lot more reviews if you didn't ask so many questions. Give us the freedom to write from the heart. That is what review is all about. Thank you!
I have enjoyed book/audiobook along with suggesting it to my friends and family. I not only Facebook/Share it, I copy and paste the information in my emails to non FB family/friends. I am more often drawn to series that explore the actual historical values of the area written about, ie - Alaskian history and the Aleut historical culture that is weaved throughout the suspense of the murder and intrigue. The author has developed Kate's circle of family and friends along with her own trauma which keeps the plots moving.
I would actually compare the book style to Thomas Perry's to " Jane Whitefield Series" because he also writes about the historical & cultural values of the area and the native American Indians. Both are the kind of series that you read and then start from the beginning and RE - READ it again.
Kate of course is # 1. Mutt is ranking # 1 also...They are a pair..
That is a very hard question because I couldn't put it down.
I found one of the audiobook/books at the San Antonio Public Library on line and was hooked.
The story will wrench your heart strings as you follow the life of Mike Bowditch a 24 year old game warden in the wild woods of Maine weather more that complaining residents, snowstorms, blizzards, rogue bears, unscrupulous poachers, dishonest destructive tourists, his wife leaving and his Father Jack Bowditch being accused of killing a cop.
Despite feeling utterly alone sometimes, Mike Bowditch knows that he is where he belongs - in the woods in Maine. He heads home to an empty house and finds a message from his Father on his answering machine asking for help. Mike is suspicious at first realizing that it has been 2 long years since he has spoken to his father - so why is he calling now? Jack Bowditch never needed anyone or anything.
Soon, Mike is in the middle of a man hunt for his Father struggling with his fellow law enforcement community because he is the "son of a known poacher" and now maybe a cop killer. No matter how alienated Mike feels he is determined to find his Father. After all, Mike knows how his Father thinks & knows all of his hiding places. He knows almost every square inch of the forest and Mike has one ace - one somebody that he can depend on because he knows deep down inside that he will never be able to depend on his own flesh and blood.
Mike soon catches up with him and is confident that he can convince his Father to return so they both can clear his name. Before long it becomes more than obvious that Mike has made a grave mistake and he may not be able to reason with his Father or live through the whole nightmare.
The next sequel.
I don't know that I can come up with a "favorite" scene.
The entire book moved me. Learning about his childhood and all the neglect & abuse he suffered at the hand of his Father was gut wrenching. John Bedford Lloyd's rich deep voice makes you feel the agony of rejection.
The Poacher's Son "Mike Bowditch's Mysteries" Audiobook read by John Bedford Lloyd is the first book in the intense series written by Award Winning Paul Doiron. The narrator's smooth deep-toned voice guides you through a maze of anguish, suspicion, treachery, betrayal and keeps you so enthralled that you won't be able to stop listening/reading for a minute.
Yes, as a matter of fact I did recommend this audiobook to allof my friends! So far so good.
Barbara of course.
Barbara of course.
I was very interested in the plot and all of the characters and listened to it as I read it on my KINDLE. Couldn't put it down!
Yes! I have so far listened/read along with my Kindle twice! So far I am enjoying the series!
"When The Dead Speak" was filled with intrigue, suspense and charisma along with the narrators lovely voice and even cadence! Great read!
She has great tone and inflection along with a great cadence.
I wouldn't have a clue.
Excellent read & the narrator makes each character spring to life!
It is an interesting read. It takes some effort to get into the shape shifting fantasy genre but hang in there it is afterall "entertainment".
This was my first.
1. Excellent 2. Resounding 3. Sexy
The complexity of the characters and Leah processing how she would come to her final decision - all her decisions. Then the compromise was welcomed.
I wouldn't begin to compare this work to another.
Her tone and inflection bring the characters and circumstances to life enriching the story!
Wonderful story! I also bought the Kindle to go along with the audiobook and it was delightful! I have read/listened to it twice.
I hour have listened to "The Wonder of Your Love" 6 times so far and read along with the story on my Kindle! It has become one of my favorites!
The love that abounded around Katie as she struggled through a devastating change in her life.
Yes. I was anxious to get to it after listening/reading "Seek Me With All Your Heart" and had prepared to take the whole day to endulge myself.
Great book! Excellent narrator!
Hard to say the story was so sorrowful.
I believe there are several more books already in print.
I couldn't give the book a 5 star rating but nevertheless I will most likely read/listen to the rest of the series out of curiosity.
