I have listened to almost all of Elin Hilderbrand's books now, and for so many reasons, Beautiful Day is my new favorite! I usually limit my audio books to work, but this one I couldn't stop listening to...at work, on my walks, even at home. And, I will probably listen to it again someday... I really didn't want it to end.
Based on the reviews I read before buying this book, I am apparently in the minority.
And, although I've listened to books before that I didn't really care for, I have never been compelled to write a negative review, until now.
I had to make myself finish this book. I felt I had already invested so much time (and a credit), and surely it would get better. But overall, it really didn't. I felt that it was very slow, and unpleasant in every way.
I listen to many, and review very few, but I would feel guilty if I didn't warn you!
Without a doubt, the most tedious and depressing book I have ever listened to.
Being read by Sally Darling was this books only redeeming quality, but even she could not save it. I finished it, but it felt like a chore to do so, and I am so thankful it's over.
The place, the story that spanned generations, and the narration... Couldn't imagine it being any better!
By the time I was half way through this novel, I felt like I really knew these characters, and now that I'm finished...I actually miss them.
Too long for just one sitting...This is a book that I didn't want to end. I wanted to go back day after day to meet with all the characters, and hear what happened next.
But when it did end, I just had to go back and listen to how it all began again!
I was so anxious to find another book by this author! I was shocked to hear of her motivation for writing this novel, and more shocked (and I must say disappointed) to find that it's her only book so far.
