After a decade spent in isolation in the Ugandan jungles thinking about stuff, David Cross has written his first book. Known for roles on the small screen such as "never-nude" Tobias Funke on Arrested Development and the role of "David" in Mr. Show with Bob And David, as well as a hugely successful stand-up routine full of sharp-tongued rants and rages, Cross has carved out his place in American comedy.

What made the experience of listening to I Drink for a Reason the most enjoyable?

Content in the audiobook that is not in the novel. Les Savy Fav performs an excerpt from the book in a song, Kristen Schaal reads a portion of the novel, John Benjamin takes over the introduction.

What was one of the most memorable moments of I Drink for a Reason?

The list of things to do when you're bored. I cried laughing. In a car. Alone. On the way to work.

What about David Cross’s performance did you like?

Whenever he digresses from reading. Things like -- Constantly berating the listener for purchasing the audiobook version. Talking about the budget of recording with the 'engineer.' Loved it. All of it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Why the f*** would you turn this into a movie?

    Any additional comments?

Things I did while writing this: Ate a chicken wing. Thought about going to the gym. Converted to Christianity.

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

What would have made The Fault in Our Stars better?

Something unexpected. Anything really. This book has such a predictable storyline and bland, vanilla characters. The voice of the main character tries to be cute and likable and instead just bores you. She reminds me of a character from Sweet Valley High, or maybe an episode of Saved by the Bell that tries to teach Zach the importance of empathy.

What could John Green have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Made some effort.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kate Rudd’s performances?

    She was fine.

What character would you cut from The Fault in Our Stars?

    The main characters.
