I have read all of the short stories that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about Sherlock Holmes in the Strand, I have seen every movie that I could find about Holmes, I have read other author's that have written about Holmes, and I even countinue to watch the British T.V. series about Sherlock Holmes...needless to say I am a Holmes Buff, and I can pick out a phony in a second (in my eyes a phony is someone that writes about Holmes but has not done their home work about him and his manorizisms)...
Laurie King should be considered the reincarnated Sir Arthur Conan Doyle!!!
Laurie hits the essence of Sherlock Holmes out of the park, and it feels as though I am listening to Doyle tell new stories about Holmes and his new apprentice.
These audiobooks are great whether you are a Holmes reader or not and I highly recommend this story and any others written by Laurie King to anyone that loves mystery, suspense, and a little brain work also!

    Overall

This book is the best in the Holmes/Russell series!
Im a huge fan of Holmes, unfortunately I read his adventures penned by the late/great ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE twice & decided2give Laurie a chance w/ Holmes. I WAS BLOWN AWAY w/ the storyline of the Mary Russell books, 2me it feels Doyle sprang2 life1 day and started writing about Holmes retirement, and he himself wrote the new series of Holmes adventures
U don't know me, but PLEASE believe me when I say Im1 of Holmes biggest fans&also believe when I say I'd tell U if this book OR ANY of Kings didnt live up 2 the skepticism of how Sherlock is 2B portraid or how Doyle would've invisioned Sherlock's life unfolding!
King writes these books as though Mary Russell gave her them by mail. She'dsaid these stories were jotted down by Mary Russell &she'd only organizing the notes & turing them in2 stories- BECAUSE of the way King writes these stories its not hard 2 imagine that shes telling the truth when she'dben given the tales from Marys own pen-quite honestly, if she said that Doyle's alive & kicking @ the age of 159 and was still writing the adventures of S.H.-I'd have ahard time not believing her

FINALLY= the reason I love this book MORE than all in the series plus its now my favorite book of all time, is like I said b4- Im ahuge S.H. fan&in other books so2 solve them they split up2gather clues NOW Iknow what your saying Holmes wouldnt do that, he needs2OBSERVE w/his own eyes& he'd never trust any1noteven Watson2collect clues but Marys the ying2hisyang&he knows w/her he can do2x the work she's truly his equaI! I started reading theRussell series cuz I needed NEW Holmes stories. W/ the other books when they S.H.&Mary sleuth on their own you dont hear what Holmes did while apart, but U do in this book, King explains what they both did while apart in order 2 make all the pieces fit and solve the mystery
It truly is the most thought out and descriptive book Ihave ever read so PLEASE take my word 4it &get this book ok

New York Times best-selling author Laurie R. King enjoys immense popularity and a resounding chorus of critical acclaim for her exquisite mysteries. The God of the Hive continues the thread King began in The Language of Bees, in which Mary Russell and her famous husband, Sherlock Holmes, face trouble with Scotland Yard and the deadliest of adversaries.

This is my second audiobook written by Laurie King about Sherlock Holmes and his new assistant Mary Russell that I have listened too, and Laurie has delivered another suspensful masterpiece as if Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had wrote it himself and never desided to stop writting about Holmes.
When I had read all of Doyle's work on Holmes I have to admit I was a little sad, but Laurie King has done a brilliant job picking up where Doyle left off and has given new life back to Holmes and his adventures, and has steered his career into a new and adventurous direction with the genious help of Holmes's hand picked new assistant Mary Russell.
If (god forbid) we were to ever lose Holmes to illness or old age, his spirit and lifes work and ambition would surely be passed onto and continued by Mary Russell.
I definitly recommend this book to any Holmes buff's and/or anyone who loves mystery and adventure.
