"A smorgasbord of language"
Some of the sentences in this book are so well crafted, they actually made me whisper "wow" outloud alone in my car.
I've phoned people to make them listen to a single passage.
The reader has it down pat.
This book isn't a thriller, and sometimes runs a little slow. This isn't a drawback as long as you don't go in expecting a rollercoaster. Listen to this book when you feel like contemplating life in general, and your own life specifically.
"Powerful"
I've never wept while listening to a biography. Until now.
Most presidential biographies focus on the presidential years. In John Adam's life, his presidency was more of a footnote rather than his shining moment. This biography focuses on the man instead of the office, the family instead of the administration.
Through joy and tragedy, you really get to know John Adams and his closest friends and family. The reading was spot on, and I firmly believe that John sounded just like that.
I cannot recomment it more highly. Enjoy.
"Dated but fun"
This is definitely a bit dated, although much of it oculd have been written in the present. The quips about losses in the stock market felt very modern!
All in all, a fun book.
"Long, but very good"
As long as this book was, I didn't want it to end!
"Fantastic"
Tom Robbins is a master, and this is a good one. Barry Bostwick as a reader was just awesome. I highly recommend this, or any of Tom Robbin's books.
